I enjoy video games not only as a way to relax, but also because of the compelling stories and characters they offer. Starsand Island is a game I keep coming back to because it feels like a refreshing escape. It’s a truly cozy game for many reasons, and its relaxing island atmosphere is just one of them.

Starsand Island feels like a relaxing getaway, both for the people who live there and for players like me. It successfully blends the charm of a beach town with the gameplay of a farming simulator, creating a vacation-like atmosphere even while you’re busy with tasks. This peaceful feeling is woven into everything – the island’s look, the weather, the food, and even the clothes you can choose. Here’s why Starsand Island is one of my go-to games when I need to unwind.

It Doesn’t Take Forever to Get to Places

Starsand Island is just the right size – you can cross it in a few minutes, or a few hours within the game. This makes it a great place to explore, as it packs a lot of different scenery into a small space.

Starsand Island offers plenty of enjoyable ways to get around. Skateboarding and rollerblades are especially fun – though my character’s knees are definitely feeling the strain from all the tricks I’m having her do to speed things up! With its open spaces, lovely scenery, and easy paths, Starsand Island is a unique and memorable place to explore.

Starsand Island is a perfect vacation spot because of its consistently pleasant weather. You can enjoy the island – and even go out on the water – any time of year, as it never experiences harsh or extreme conditions.

Local shops like Lunelle’s, the coffee shop, and the general store have a unique appeal – they feel like a cozy part of the island while also attracting visitors. They provide everyday necessities for residents, but also offer things tourists love, like the restaurant’s special dishes and locally-inspired sewing patterns.

Starsand Town is Made For Visits

Starsand Island’s main town is small, but it feels vibrant and thoughtfully designed. Though compact, it boasts a unique, modern style and clearly benefits from visitors, with details like wisteria-covered walkways, public art, and paved streets creating a welcoming atmosphere.

Getting around town is simple because the streets connect well and are designed to be efficient, whether you’re walking or driving.

This is a Vacation Destination

Most relaxing games take place in towns that feel isolated because they only contain villagers. Starsand Island is different – it’s bustling with many more people than just residents. Seeing a familiar face in the crowd feels rewarding, and these extra characters are simply called “Tourists.”

Although it’s a small detail, the presence of tourists helps establish Starsand Island as a real place and a travel destination. It creates the impression that living there would be like being on vacation.

4. The Food

Everything Tastes Better on Vacation

Many cozy games feature cooking, and I especially love the huge variety of recipes in Starsand Island. The food really makes the island feel special – the chef Aurelis even moved there specifically because of the fresh, local ingredients!

Starsand Island offers a wide variety of food, with a strong influence from Southeast and East Asian flavors. You’ll find dishes like coconut rice, braised fish, dumplings, and sashimi. The island’s food is designed to be realistic, making the locale feel authentic and believable.

Starsand Island is clearly a popular vacation destination, as evidenced by visiting characters from other games. Ginger and Gust from My Time at Portia, and Nia and Fang from My Time at Sandrock, both make unexpected appearances, claiming they’re there to relax and enjoy the fresh air.

When characters from other games appear on Starsand Island, it really makes the island feel like a connected place – almost like a vacation spot your characters from My Time at Portia and My Time at Sandrock could travel to themselves.
