The PlayStation 5 and the more powerful PS5 Pro have demonstrated the significant advancements their technology brings to modern games and the people who create them. And just to be clear, I’m not ignoring the criticism about the lack of exclusive games – feel free to point that out!
As a PlayStation fan, I was really excited to check out the PS5 Pro’s updated PS4 Games Boost feature – now called the Enhanced Image Quality setting. Honestly, I was surprised by how much it actually improves the resolution and overall look of a lot of my older PS4 games! It’s not perfect, there are a few minor things to be aware of, but it’s a really nice boost for those games.
Hey, I’ve put together a list of PS4 games I think are totally worth revisiting, or even trying for the first time, especially now that the PS5 Pro’s image enhancement feature can make them look amazing. I’m excited to share what I’ve got!
10. Driveclub
A Racing Game That Felt Ahead of Its Time

While many people are just now discovering how good Driveclub actually is, I was fortunate enough to play it when it first came out on the PS4. Even at launch, the game stood out with its beautiful graphics and unique look.
This racing game stood out for its realistic feel and ability to pull players into the experience. However, on the original PlayStation 4, those details didn’t always look as sharp as intended. Players sometimes noticed blurry visuals, softened edges, and a lack of crispness in the finer details.
If you’re showing off your PS5 Pro’s Image Enhancement feature, Driveclub is a great choice. The game sees a noticeable improvement in visual quality, making even rainy scenes feel more immersive than you’d get in newer racing games like Forza or Need for Speed.
9. God of War (2018)
Just Your Wholesome Father-Son Bonding Journey
Santa Monica Studio significantly impacted the gaming world with the 2018 release of God of War for PlayStation 4. Its reveal at E3 remains a particularly memorable and celebrated moment for the entire industry.
God of War (2018) looks and plays exceptionally well on the PS5 Pro. The console’s Game Boost feature delivers a crisp, smooth experience with a stable 60 frames per second at 4K resolution, offering a clear improvement in visual detail and clarity compared to the original PS5 version.
If you want to revisit or quickly play through the game with Kratos and Atreus, the Pro version improves image detail and makes the picture cleaner, offering a smoother and more visually impressive experience for this reimagining of the story.
8. Metro Exodus
Like a Flickering Light in the Darkness
Metro Exodus is a challenging survival shooter that demands skillful and resourceful gameplay. However, the entire Metro series has always been popular thanks to its compelling story and memorable characters, which originated in the original novels.
The original PS4 version of Exodus had noticeable visual problems – it appeared blurry and often had a fluctuating resolution. While the PS5 version fixed many of these issues, it wasn’t perfect. Fortunately, the PS5 Pro’s upgraded image processing significantly improves the visual quality, resolving those earlier problems.
You’ll see a sharper, more detailed image with less blurring, and the picture will be more stable, particularly on a 4K TV. The game already features realistic day and night changes and great lighting effects. These improvements make the game even more enjoyable on the PS5 Pro, and also enhance the experience if you’re playing on the older PS4 version.
7. Ratchet & Clank (2016)
A Fun Revisit for All Ages
Insomniac’s 2016 Ratchet & Clank felt like playing a Pixar movie. While it looked great on PS4, the graphics could sometimes appear a bit blurry, particularly during action-packed moments with lots of effects or detailed environments.
Just to be clear, the PS5 Pro doesn’t really change things with this game. However, it’s still worth mentioning because of a good update it received for the PS5 a while back.
If you delayed playing this when it first came out – like many others, including myself – now’s a great time to give it another try, especially if you’re aiming for the Platinum Trophy. It’s a fun, lighthearted game that’s simple to learn, making it ideal for players who never experienced the original PlayStation 2 version.
6. Infamous First Light
Let’s Play a Game of Fetch
The original Infamous games were some of the most popular and highly-rated titles on the PlayStation 3. Later, Infamous: Second Son and Infamous: First Light brought even more action and superpowers to the PlayStation 4.
We’ve chosen Infamous First Light for this list because of its striking visual style, particularly the vibrant neon powers of the character Fetch. While the game already looks good on a standard PS5, the PS5 Pro’s upgrades make it feel much more current and less like an older title.
The PS5 Pro doesn’t offer a radical overhaul, but games look noticeably cleaner, sharper, and more vibrant when you’re playing them.
5. NieR: Automata
For the Glory of Mankind
Okay, so I was worried this might be some sneaky promotion, but trust me, Nier: Automata actually looks and plays better on the PS5 Pro. The Image Enhancement feature really makes a difference – it’s not just a marketing gimmick, it’s a genuine improvement, and Yoko Taro didn’t pay anyone to say that!
On the PS4, character models like 2B, 9S, and A2, and the game’s environments, can appear a bit blurry, particularly during action. The PS5 Pro improves this by making everything sharper and more detailed – characters and environments like ruined cities and plants – without changing the game’s overall look or sad atmosphere.
This isn’t a huge overhaul of the game, and that’s intentional. It never really needed a major remake, just a few improvements to make it run smoother and look a little sharper – and you can definitely see those improvements.
4. Concrete Genie
Let Your Imagination Run Wild
I discovered a fantastic, yet often overlooked game called Concrete Genie through PlayStation Plus in February 2021, just before I upgraded to a PS5. It’s a charming and concise indie game where you use the controller’s touch pad to create beautiful paintings.
Concrete Genie’s core feature is its creative painting system. With the PS5 Pro, everything looks even better – the lines of Ash’s genie creations, building edges, and glowing effects are all much sharper and clearer.
This game still offers the same emotional experience the developers, PixelOpus, originally created. Even though the studio is now closed, if you have a PS5 or PS5 Pro, you can still experience the incredible dedication and passion they poured into it.
3. Assassin’s Creed Origins
Bayek of Siwa, Remember the Name
I thought Assassin’s Creed Origins was gorgeous when it first came out on PS4. Honestly, for me, it was the ideal Assassin’s Creed RPG – before Ubisoft really went all-in on the RPG elements in the newer games and, in my opinion, kind of lost the plot.

Ancient Egypt is more than just a setting in this game – it’s central to Bayek’s story of revenge. Plus, Assassin’s Creed Origins received an update in 2022 to run at a smooth 60 frames per second. If you’re playing on the PlayStation 5 Pro, you can also enable Image Enhancement for a small visual improvement.
What truly sets Origins apart is its deliberate pace and immersive atmosphere within the Assassin’s Creed world. The story focuses more on characters, and if you can find the Gold Edition, the ‘Hidden Ones’ and ‘Curse of the Pharaoh’ expansions are definitely worth playing for dedicated fans.
2. Final Fantasy XV
Not as Bad as Everyone Made It
I’ll admit, Final Fantasy XV was one of the first Japanese role-playing games I played on PlayStation 4. I know it has its problems, but I still love it and would happily play it again for a third time. That’s why I’m recommending it – I hope it might encourage others to give it a try, especially now that it’s been improved with updates and the Royal Edition content.
Though not the most polished game technically when it originally released on PS4, Final Fantasy XV truly shines with the PS5 Pro’s improved visuals. The upgrade primarily addresses the game’s biggest weakness: a lack of visual clarity, giving it a new lease on life.
The game is fully compatible with the original PS5 and runs at a smooth 60 frames per second. On the PS5 Pro, the visuals are noticeably crisper and clearer. This really lets the world of Eos – its long roads and expansive deserts – shine, finally showcasing the potential of the Luminous engine.
1. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Hesitation is Defeat
I think Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is FromSoftware’s best game. It demands perfectly timed blocks, breaking your enemy’s defenses, and incredibly fast reflexes. So, when I heard the PS5 version had an improved framerate, I immediately had to replay it.
Even though the game ran smoothly, it still looked a bit blurry and had rough edges, a common issue with many PS4 games on this list. The PS5 Pro improves the picture quality, making everything much sharper and clearer.
The game now has sharper details, more vibrant textures in the distance, and a generally more solid visual presentation. You’ll notice the improvement more while playing than in pictures or videos. For a demanding and visually rich game like Sekiro, these refinements make a big difference, and you really can tell.
