10 Most Powerful Heroes Created By Robert Kirkman

Fans were thrilled when creator Robert Kirkman began working on the current Transformers comic series, published by Skybound, alongside acclaimed artist Dan Mora. This collaboration has helped grow the popular Energon Universe. Though he’s primarily working with existing Transformers characters, Kirkman is famous for creating original stories that have revolutionized comics and expanded into other forms of media.

Robert Kirkman, known for creating popular series like The Walking Dead and Invincible, has brought many characters into the mainstream. But he’s actually created a lot more fantastic heroes that haven’t gotten the same level of recognition. With new projects constantly adding to his roster, now is a great time to discover some of his lesser-known but incredibly powerful characters, such as Tech Jacket and Astounding Wolf-Man, who deserve their moment to shine.

Michonne Stands Tall in The Walking Dead Universe

The world of zombies gained a huge following in 2003 with the release of The Walking Dead, created by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and later Charlie Adlard. The original black-and-white comic quickly became popular, and it was followed by an equally successful 11-season TV series on AMC, which also spawned several spin-off shows.

Though both the comic book and TV show featured many interesting characters – even as the show significantly changed the original story – Michonne stood out the most. Many of the survivors struggled to cope with the zombie outbreak, but Michonne seemed uniquely prepared. She faced hardship like anyone else, but her strength and fighting skills were exceptional in that desperate world.

Curtis Doyle Could Manipulate Reality With His Freedom Ring

Everyone knows me for creating my own stuff, but I actually spent some time writing for Marvel too! One project I’m really proud of, and not a lot of people know about, is my run on Marvel Team-Up – the third volume. I got to work with some amazing artists like Skott Kolins, Paco Medina, and Andy Kuhn. It was all about pairing up Marvel’s biggest heroes, and I even slipped a few characters I created into the stories, which was a lot of fun.

At the start of the story, the Ringmaster created a powerful ring using a piece of the Cosmic Cube. However, he lost it when The Punisher injured him. Curtis Doyle then found the ring and discovered it allowed him to alter reality around him. He became the hero Freedom Ring, but his lack of experience led to paralysis and ultimately, his death.

Z’Reg Was a Skrull Operative Who Became Crusader

Robert Kirkman’s Marvel Team-Up introduced a Skrull spy whose mission was to infiltrate the Avengers. Unfortunately for him, the Avengers had broken up when he arrived on Earth, giving him plenty of time to grow fond of the planet. Inspired by Earth’s culture, he ultimately chose to become a hero and adopted the identity of Crusader.

Crusader was a shapeshifter who used Skrull technology, but kept his background a secret. He later obtained the powers of the Freedom Ring while mentoring a young hero. However, he was killed by a powerful alternate version of Iron Man. After his death, Crusader subtly took control of the ring, and at the moment of his final demise, wished for a different outcome. The ring responded by making him vanish.

Astounding Wolf-Man Used His Curse to Become a Hero

Robert Kirkman and artist Jason Howard recently added a new hero to the Invincible world who quickly became popular with fans: Astounding Wolf-Man. The story combines superhero action with supernatural elements, following Gary Hampton, a wealthy businessman who is bitten by a werewolf. He’s then mentored by an ancient vampire who helps him become the hero Wolf-Man, only to later reveal a sinister scheme.

Hampton initially transformed into a werewolf only during the full moon, but he later gained the ability to change at will. As a werewolf, he possessed superhuman strength, speed, and reflexes. He first fought alongside the Guardians of the Globe, and eventually became the leader of his own team of werewolves, known as Wolf C.O.R.P.S.

Owen Johnson is the Reluctant Wielder of the Fire Power

Man, the Fire Power comic just finished up in 2024, and it was a wild ride! It followed Owen Johnson’s story, but it wasn’t long before a whole crew of people who could use Fire Power showed up. Owen was super powerful, probably one of the best, but honestly, he never asked for all that responsibility. It was a great series, and I’m sad to see it end!

When the temple came under attack, Johnson unexpectedly unleashed a fireball – a feat not seen in a millennium. He later moved back to the United States to focus on raising his family, but his heroic past eventually caught up with him. He continued to fight, and his family became his allies, helping him learn to control various flames through emotional discipline. This made him one of Kirkman’s most powerful heroes.

Zack Thompson Joined Multiple Alien Wars as Tech Jacket

Zack Thompson was just a high school student when he became Tech Jacket. Created by Robert Kirkman and artist E.J. Su, Zack received a powerful, high-tech alien suit from a dying alien named Geldarian. The suit protected him from a ship explosion, and ever since, he’s been working to prove he’s worthy of the incredible power it gives him.

I’m a huge Tech Jacket fan, and what’s so cool about him is that he really had to earn his awesome new armor. He wasn’t just handed it! He proved himself in battle against the Geldarians’ oldest enemies, and then again during the massive Invincible War. What really makes him special, even among a bunch of super-powered heroes, is his incredible strength, speed, and the fact that he can build these amazing, powerful weapons out of alien tech. He just stands out!

Brit Was the Global Defense Agency’s Original Super-Soldier

Though he appeared earlier in Kirkman’s work, Brit, a remarkably powerful super-soldier, and his friends later became central figures in the Invincible story. Created with Tony Moore, who also worked on The Walking Dead, Brit was virtually indestructible, surviving even the most catastrophic events, such as being at the center of a nuclear explosion and the entire Invincible War.

Brit’s real name is Brittany, named after his father. He also has a son named Brit Jr. who is incredibly durable. Brit eventually became the leader of the Guardians of the Globe. At first, he was only a little stronger than an average person, but the GDA gave him jet boots and special gauntlets that significantly increased his strength, making him a formidable hero.

Atom Eve’s Powers and Potential are Nearly Limitless

Though the main hero is the most well-known, many characters in Kirkman’s superhero world demonstrate impressive powers. Samantha Eve Wilkins, also known as Atom Eve, was one of the first superpowered people to team up with Invincible, and their close friendship eventually blossomed into a romantic relationship.

Okay, so Atom Eve is seriously powerful. She got her abilities from a science experiment that basically lets her control anything at the atomic level. In a fight, that means she can make energy weapons, shields, even full-on armor. But it’s way more than that – she can build crazy complex stuff, and even rebuild people at a molecular level. Like, she can heal almost any injury, or even bring someone back from the edge of death. It’s insane!

Battle Beast Proved His Strength Against Kirkman’s Strongest

Fans of the Invincible universe were also amazed by Thokk, an alien warrior better known as Battle Beast. Though he initially fought alongside the villains of the Order, it quickly became clear that Battle Beast was motivated solely by his desire for a good fight. This ultimately led him to join forces with Invincible during the Viltrumite War.

Battle Beast was a formidable early opponent for Invincible, making him a valuable ally in the fight against the Viltrumites. He’s best known for his epic battle with the Viltrumite leader, Grand Regent Thragg, where he ultimately died a warrior’s death. Regardless, Battle Beast rightfully earned his place among the most powerful characters created by Kirkman.

Mark Grayson Truly Earned His Superhero Name as Invincible

Robert Kirkman’s biggest hit is definitely Invincible. He created the comic with artists Cory Walker and later Ryan Ottley for Image Comics, and it centers around Mark Grayson. Mark initially follows in his father’s heroic footsteps, but quickly discovers his father is actually a villainous alien conqueror, launching Mark on a thrilling new journey.

Most superheroes are born with a fixed level of power, but Mark Grayson was different. He could actually train his abilities, making them even stronger – similar to how a person builds muscle through exercise. By focusing on specific skills, like speed while flying, he pushed his limits. This dedication eventually made him one of the most powerful Viltrumites and the strongest hero in the stories created by Kirkman.
