An acclaimed Disney+ original series, initially pulled off Disney+ during their content clean-up in 2020, will now be offered on a different streaming service two years later due to company reorganization. Unfortunately, some early 2020 Disney+ originals were discontinued by Disney, resulting in the removal of their seasons from the platform to cut costs. This left fans disappointed as these titles became unavailable for streaming anywhere else.
As stated by The Wonder Project’s press release, streaming for “The Mysterious Benedict Society” on Disney+ is set to commence on October 5. This streaming service, which can be accessed as an add-on to Amazon Prime Video, is slated to debut. Interestingly, both seasons of “The Mysterious Benedict Society” will be introduced on this platform, making it the first place where fans can stream the series since its removal from Disney+ in 2023.
The Wonder Project, a production company rooted in faith, is set to debut its exclusive subscription service within Prime Video starting October 5. This means that the much-anticipated series, “The Mysterious Benedict Society,” will be accessible on the new platform from its very first day.
The popular Disney+ series, “The Mysterious Benedict Society,” captivated numerous viewers. In 2022, it returned for a second season, but unfortunately, Disney decided to halt its continuation in January 2023. Regrettably, the show disappeared during one of Disney+’s content cleanups in May 2023 and hasn’t been seen since then.
To help save costs in 2023, Disney chose to cancel several of its original streaming service projects. By doing so, they would no longer need to make payments for residuals and might even qualify for tax deductions with those shelved projects.
The subscription for The Wonder Project is set at $8.99 USD monthly or $89.99 annually. While primarily focusing on faith-based content, the new service will expand its offerings to encompass family-friendly films and series with uplifting messages and themes like “The Mysterious Benedict Society”.
Other Purged Disney Projects Now Available to Watch Again
The Mysterious Benedict Society” TV show was removed from a streaming service, making it unavailable for viewing elsewhere. Yet, this isn’t an unusual case, as other titles that have been removed are often reintroduced on different streaming platforms or made available for purchase online.
Genius: MLK/X
As a dedicated cinephile, I must share that “Genius” was a compelling television series originally broadcast on Hulu and Disney+, with its fourth season spotlighting Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X – two titans in the fight for civil rights within the USA. However, it’s unfortunate to note that after Season 4’s release in 2024, the entire series was mysteriously removed from those streaming platforms.
Now, you can stream the show on either Amazon Prime Video or Tubi. Interestingly, it’s also possible to buy the show digitally through Apple TV or Fandango at Home.
Cheaper by the Dozen (2022)
As a film enthusiast, I can share that back in 2022, Disney chose to reimagine the beloved 2003 film “Cheaper by the Dozen” featuring an entirely fresh cast. Sadly, this remake didn’t resonate with viewers as hoped, ultimately leading Disney to remove it from their streaming service, Disney+.
Despite no longer being available for streaming across platforms, you can still acquire a digital copy of “Cheaper by the Dozen” from services like Amazon Prime Video, Fandango Now, Apple TV, YouTube, or Google Play.
Marvel’s Runaways
A show called “Runaways,” which was an original production on Hulu and debuted in 2017, ran for three seasons before also becoming available on Disney+ in 2019. Unfortunately, in 2023, it was removed from both platforms as a part of cost-saving measures.
Enthusiasts of the series “Runaways” were overjoyed in May 2024 as The CW secured the streaming rights. Since then, the show has been streamable on The CW, and can also be purchased digitally on the video-on-demand (VOD) platforms listed above.
The Right Stuff
The television show titled “The Right Stuff” initially aired on Disney+, but due to its positive critical response and high viewership, it was subsequently taken down from the platform.
It is not available to stream anymore, but is available for purchase on VOD platforms.
Stargirl
The musical film titled “Stargirl,” which premiered in 2020, was initially streamed on Disney+. However, similar to other productions, Disney decided to take it off the platform as well.
Currently, you can stream “Stargirl” on both Amazon Prime Video and YouTube TV. Similar to the other titles mentioned here, it’s also available for purchase through Video On Demand (VOD) services.
Artemis Fowl
2020 appeared to present challenges for Disney, with another one of their 2020 releases (Artemis Fowl) being taken off the shelves due to less-than-favorable reviews. To be honest, its low Rotten Tomatoes score of 9% and IMDb rating of 4.3 made it a logical choice for removal from the lineup.
As a dedicated cinephile, I must share that the captivating adventure film, Artemis Fowl, has bid farewell to its streaming home on Disney+. Yet, fret not! You can still acquire this magical journey and enjoy it at your convenience through various Video On Demand (VOD) platforms online.
Flora & Ulysses
The 2021 film “Flora & Ulysses,” which is an adaptation of a children’s book by the same title, tells the story of a young girl named Flora who saves a squirrel called Ulysses. However, due to content purge, this movie is no longer available for streaming on Disney+.
The movie can’t be streamed anywhere else, but you can buy or rent it from video-on-demand services.
Hailey’s On It!
As a movie buff, I couldn’t help but miss the thrilling ride of “Hailey’s On It!”, a beloved Disney Channel series that unfortunately met its end after two exhilarating seasons (for updates on other popular Disney shows that recently bid adieu, check here). Much to our disappointment, it was taken off Disney+, but fortunately, it can now be streamed on various platforms.
Amazon Prime Video and Sling TV both stream all seasons of Hailey’s On It! It’s worth mentioning that video on demand (VOD) services also give you the option to buy episodes or seasons of the show.
Magic Camp
In the challenging year of 2020, Disney released another movie titled “Magic Camp,” featuring Adam Devine. However, this production did not fare well among critics and viewers alike. Eventually, as you might have anticipated, the film was removed from Disney+ streaming service.
Currently, you can only catch Magic Camp by streaming it on YouTube TV. Unfortunately, at this moment, it’s not available for digital purchase anywhere else.
Better Nate Than Never
In 2022, Disney attempted to debut a new musical titled “Better Nate Than Ever,” but unfortunately, the movie did not meet their expectations and was removed from their streaming platform. Despite receiving positive reviews, such as an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.4 rating on IMDb, it seems Disney was disappointed with its performance in the market.
Although “Better Nate Than Ever” may not have been initially released for streaming, you can still watch it as it’s accessible for purchase on Video On Demand (VOD) services. Furthermore, if you’re a YouTube TV subscriber, the show is currently being made available to you.
