1 million bees terrorize highway after beekeeper’s truck crashes

Oh my gosh, you won’t believe this! I heard about a truck carrying a million bees that actually crashed on the highway. Can you imagine? It basically unleashed a swarm of bees onto all the cars stuck in traffic! It’s crazy!

A truck carrying a large number of bees overturned on Interstate 40 in Knoxville, Tennessee on April 17th. These types of bee shipments are common, as commercial beekeepers regularly move bees to help with pollination and support farming across the country.

The accident caused traffic to stop completely, putting drivers at risk. Mark Nagi from the Tennessee Department of Transportation used X (formerly Twitter) to share information with motorists.

Officials warned passersby to stay in their cars

The road reopened quickly after the crash, but Nagi cautioned drivers to stay in their cars because the large group of insects hadn’t dispersed yet.

So, things didn’t go as planned. My truck is totally wrecked, and the bees… let’s just say they’re still pretty active. I even snapped a pic of myself suited up like a beekeeper – it was a whole situation!

Good news! The I-40 East ramp to Henley Street has reopened. However, a truck was totaled in the incident, and there’s a lot of bee activity. For your safety, please remain in your vehicles unless you’re wearing protective gear. #bees #stings

Nagi later shared that officials had successfully relocated the bees from the area, and thankfully, no one was hurt in the accident or what happened afterward.
