While 007 First Light is a story-driven game, it offers ways to keep playing after you finish the main campaign. The TacSim mode is a great way to challenge yourself and unlock new items. You don’t even need to finish the story to start playing – the Advanced Tactical Training Escalation becomes available immediately after completing the nightclub training mission.
The first Advanced Tactical Training Escalation is easier to finish than the others in the game, but collecting all the challenges and bonus rewards can still be frustrating.
How To Complete The Advanced Tactical Training Escalation
Once you unlock tactical simulation mode, the first level of Advanced Tactical Training is quite simple. It mainly involves following on-screen instructions to learn the fundamental combat skills in First Light. After just a couple of tries, you should be able to complete the ‘Fast Learner’ challenge in under a minute.
The next level builds on what you’ve already learned, but now you’ll face enemies who shoot back at you in a larger space. This means you’ll need to be more strategic with your actions to succeed and master new techniques.
- Vault Tackle
- Charge an enemy x2
- Double Leg Shot x2
- Focus Headshot x2
- Shot Disarm x2
The last challenge takes place in the Iceland compound where you’ll fight 13 enemies. Unlike earlier stages, there are no extra objectives – just the direct confrontation. Be aware that going in guns blazing will trigger reinforcements: 6 extra enemies will arrive, including one dangerous sniper, which can be especially tough on higher difficulty levels.
How To Complete Every Advanced Tactical Training Challenge
A frustrating aspect of First Light‘s training simulations is how the game handles challenges. It doesn’t clearly separate challenges that apply to the entire game from those specific to the Advanced Tactical Training Escalation. While the game lists 22 challenges in total, only 11 are unique to the Escalation, and four of those are automatically unlocked simply by completing all three tiers of the Escalation.
| Challenge | Task | Rewards |
|---|---|---|
| Advanced Tactical Training 1 | Complete Tier 1 | 1000 Intel, 500 XP |
| Advanced Tactical Training 2 | Complete Tier 2 | 1400 Intel, 750 XP |
| Advanced Tactical Training 3 | Complete Tier 3 | 1400 Intel, 750 XP |
| Graduated | Complete all Tiers | 2000 Intel, 1000 XP |
| For Your Eyes Only | Complete tier 2 with 4 or fewer eliminated opponents | 2000 Intel, 1000 XP |
| A Lesson In Chemistry | Eliminate an opponent with an explosion on Tier 3 | 1000 Intel, 500 XP |
| Mind The Gap | Throw an enemy off a ledge | 1400 Intel, 750 XP |
| No Gadgets: “Advanced Tactical Training” | Complete tier 3 with no gadgets equipped | 1400 Intel, 750 XP |
| Fast Learner | Complete tier in under one minute | 1400 Intel, 750 XP |
| Slow Learner | Complete tier 2 only shooting with focus activated | 1400 Intel, 750 XP |
| Hoplophobia | Complete tier 3 without firing a shot | 2000 Intel, 1000 XP |
Tier 2 consists of two challenges you can complete in one playthrough. Start by completing the early melee challenges on the first two enemies, finishing them with headshots while using focus mode. Then, complete the remaining melee challenges before taking out the next two guards with two leg shots each, also using focus mode to complete the ‘Slow Learner’ challenge.
Finally, for the last set of challenges, the simplest approach is to complete them in one go using only melee attacks and with all gadgets turned off. Begin by quickly throwing an enemy off the edge near the starting point – it’s just ahead and to the right.
Staying hidden is tough in this area, but the building in the center has a ladder you can use to eliminate enemies one by one safely. This is also a great spot to complete three takedowns for the ‘Dropping In’ universal challenge – you can find a list of all challenges below.
| Challenge | Task | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Full Pockets | Use four different gadgets during a mission | 1400 Intel, 750 XP |
| The Driver | Complete any mission wearing the Chauffeur outfit | 1000 Intel, 500 XP |
| Tacsim Hub Introduction | Complete the guided tutorial inside the Tacsim hub | 1000 Intel, 500 XP |
| Shotgun Specialist | Complete any mission, only by eliminating enemies with shotguns | 1400 Intel, 750 XP |
| Pistol Specialist | Complete any mission, only by eliminating enemies with pistols | 1000 Intel, 500 XP |
| Dropping In | Do three takedowns from above in a single mission | 2000 Intel, 1000 XP |
| The Chemist | Complete a mission with at least 3 chemical gadgets and no battery gadgets | 1400 Intel, 750 XP |
| The Technologist | Complete a mission with at least 3 battery gadgets and no chemical gadgets | 1400 Intel, 750 XP |
| All In | Grab rush 2 enemies over a ledge | 1400 Intel, 750 XP |
| Mix It Up | Eliminate enemies with at least 3 different weapon types during a mission | 1000 Intel, 500 XP |
| It Wasn’t Me | Do a takedown and a bluff in the span of 10 seconds | 1400 Intel, 750 XP |
Some of the game’s challenges are tough to finish immediately after unlocking the tactical simulation mode in First Light. However, you can complete a few of them relatively easily by playing the Advanced Tactical Training Escalation. Pistol Specialist, Mix It Up, and All In are the simplest to achieve on this map, though challenges like Shotgun Specialist are impossible due to the limited weapons and ammunition available.
Although it can be frustrating to repeat Tactical Simulation Escalations to finish all challenges, the game offers good replay value thanks to its post-game content, which extends the length of 007 First Light’s fairly short story.
