The upcoming film, Zootopia 2, features a huge cast of well-known actors and is predicted to have a massive opening weekend in 2025. The first Zootopia movie, released in 2016 and directed by Byron Howard, Rich Moore, and Jared Bush, told the story of a new police officer, Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin), and a sly fox, Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), who work together to solve a mystery in their city. The original film won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature thanks to its beautiful animation and thought-provoking themes.
In this new case, Judy and Nick find themselves investigating a surprising discovery: a snake has appeared in Zootopia! Since snakes haven’t been seen in the city for over a century, this unexpected arrival throws everything into chaos and sends the duo on a thrilling adventure that really challenges their teamwork. The film, known as Zootopia 2 or Zootropolis 2 depending on where you are, features both familiar and brand-new characters – including some major stars like Academy Award winners and Hollywood’s top earners – building on the already large cast of the first movie.
Ever wondered what the voices behind your favorite characters sound like, and who the actors are? Here’s a look at the people who bring these characters to life, and where else you might recognize them from.
Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps

Ginnifer Goodwin is well-known to Disney fans, having previously voiced Fawn in Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast and played Snow White/Mary Margaret Blanchard in the series Once Upon a Time. She’s also starred in popular romantic comedies like He’s Just Not That Into You and Something Borrowed. Now, she returns as Judy Hopps in Zootopia 2, where Judy and Nick team up to solve a new case. However, solving the mystery forces Judy to go on the run, which could ruin her career with the Zootopia Police Department.
Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde

Jason Bateman is now a familiar face on streaming services, thanks to his starring role in all four seasons of Netflix’s Ozark (where he won an Emmy in 2019 for directing and three SAG Awards for acting) and his recent appearance in the crime thriller Black Rabbit alongside Jude Law. He’s widely recognized for his Golden Globe-winning work on Arrested Development, and has also appeared in popular films like Juno, Horrible Bosses, and This is Where I Leave You. He’s also reprising his role as Nick Wilde, the reformed con artist, in Zootopia 2, where he teams up with Judy to solve the mystery of Gary De’Snake’s arrival. Their investigation will challenge both characters as they work through their different styles of policing.
Ke Huy Quan as Gary De’Snake

Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan is joining the cast of Zootopia 2 as a new character named Gary De’Snake. Many viewers will remember Quan from classic films like The Goonies and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, as well as his recent roles in Loki and the Academy Award-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once. That award actually helped relaunch his career! In Zootopia 2, Gary is a snake who’s at the heart of the sequel’s main conflict. Though he’s venomous, he’s also kind and often misunderstood. Hopefully, he’ll team up with Judy and Nick to solve a long-standing mystery, clear his family’s name, and show everyone in Zootopia that reptiles and mammals can live together peacefully.
Fortune Feimster as Nibbles Maplestick

Isn’t it great that audiences are finally getting a podcasting semi-aquatic mammal? Comedian Fortune Feimster is joining the cast of Zootopia 2 to make that happen! She’ll be voicing Nibbles Maplestick, a lovable but unusual beaver who lives in Marsh Market—a secluded part of Zootopia that might even be hiding a secret reptile community. Nibbles is key to helping Nick and Judy find the snake they’re searching for, and Feimster is perfectly cast for the quirky role. She’s known for her stand-up specials and comedy appearances in shows like The Mindy Project, Office Christmas Party, and the Netflix series FUBAR.
Idris Elba as Chief Bogo

Idris Elba is back as Chief Bogo in the upcoming film. He’s known for his unique voice, which he’s used to bring to life memorable characters like Shere Khan in The Jungle Book and Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and 3. Many will recognize him from his superhero roles as Heimdall in the Thor movies and Bloodsport in The Suicide Squad. He’s also starred in the drama series Luther and films like Beast, though perhaps not everyone wants to remember Cats. Chief Bogo is the tough, cape buffalo chief of the Zootopia Police Department. In the first Zootopia movie, he was skeptical of Judy Hopps as the first bunny police officer, and in the new film, he tells her and Nick Wilde that failure isn’t an option – they’ll be split up if they don’t succeed.
David Strathairn as Milton Lynxley

David Strathairn, known for films like Good Night, and Good Luck, A League of Their Own, The Bourne Ultimatum, Lincoln, Godzilla, and Where the Crawdads Sing, is joining Zootopia 2. He’s a fantastic actor, and he’ll be playing Milton Lynxley, the head of a powerful family who might be involved in the mystery Judy and Nick are investigating. The latest trailer gives a glimpse of Strathairn’s performance, which looks to be wonderfully villainous.
Andy Samberg as Pawbert Lynxley

Pawbert is the youngest member of the Lynxley family, and because Andy Samberg voices him, audiences can probably guess what kind of character he’ll be. Samberg is well-known for his comedic work, starting with his time on Saturday Night Live, then playing Detective Jake Peralta on Brooklyn Nine-Nine for eight seasons, and voicing characters in four Hotel Transylvania movies—something Adam Sandler didn’t do. He’s a consistently funny performer, but he’s also played a villain in Zootopia 2, so viewers should be prepared for surprises.
Macaulay Culkin as Cattrick Lynxley

Everyone knows Macaulay Culkin – he became famous as a kid starring in the classic Christmas movies Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. While he hasn’t been in the public eye much since then, he’s now voicing a character in Zootopia 2. He plays Cattrick, the mysterious oldest son of the Lynxley family.
Brenda Song as Kitty Lynxley

Many fans remember Brenda Song as London Tipton from the Disney Channel series The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. What some may not know is that she got engaged to Macaulay Culkin in 2022. The couple recently worked together on the Netflix show Running Point – Song as a main cast member and Culkin in a guest appearance – and now they’re teaming up again, voicing siblings in Zootopia 2. Disney describes Song’s character, Kitty, as a witty member of the Lynxley family, and a force to be reckoned with!
Shakira as Gazelle

A sequel to Zootopia wouldn’t be complete without Shakira reprising her role as the animal world’s biggest pop star. She’s back as Gazelle, providing the vocals for the new song “Zoo,” which has already appeared in trailers for Zootopia 2. Considering her first song from the original movie, “Try Everything” (which has an impressive 780 million views online), parents might want to brace themselves for “Zoo” to become a new family favorite. Beyond voice acting, Shakira is a Grammy-winning artist with four awards, a producer of hit songs in both English and Spanish, and a celebrated icon known as the “Queen of Latin Music.” And that’s not the only musical talent involved…
Ed Sheeran as Ed Shearin

Ed Sheeran is joining the cast of Zootopia 2! He’ll play a sheep character named Ed Shearin. Beyond acting, Sheeran co-wrote a song for the movie, titled “Zoo,” alongside Shakira and Blake Slatkin. While famous for hits like “Thinking Out Loud” and “Shape of You,” Sheeran has also made appearances in films like Bridget Jones’s Baby, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and Red Notice.
Patrick Warburton as Mayor Brian Winddancer

Patrick Warburton is famous for his distinctive voice, so it’s perfect casting that he’ll be voicing a blonde-maned stallion in Zootopia 2. With over 324 acting roles under his belt, he’s well-known for playing endearing, slightly silly characters – like Kronk from The Emperor’s New Groove – and masters of dry humor, such as Jeff Bingham in Rules of Engagement. In Zootopia 2, Warburton’s character, Brian Winddancer, becomes the new Mayor of Zootopia after a successful career as an actor. Disney describes Winddancer as charming but a bit naive, which could be problematic considering the powerful and intimidating Lynxley family, as seen in the latest trailer.
Quinta Brunson as Dr. Fuzzby

Get ready to laugh! Quinta Brunson, the talented creator and star of the hit show Abbott Elementary, joins Zootopia 2 as Dr. Fuzzby, a hilarious quokka who leads a therapy group called “Partners in Crisis.” She’s Judy and Nick’s new therapist, helping them – and other teammates – learn to work better together. If she’s already making you laugh uncontrollably, it’s no surprise given Brunson’s award-winning comedic skills!
Danny Trejo as Jesús

The upcoming movie Zootopia 2 will expand the world by introducing Judy and Nick to a whole new group of animals, including a character voiced by Danny Trejo. Trejo plays Jesús, a plumed basilisk—a reptile with the amazing ability to run on water. Jesús’s unique background highlights a key theme of the sequel: challenging prejudice and showing that everyone deserves a chance. Like previous voice actor Alan Tudyk, Trejo is a well-known actor with a distinctive voice, having appeared in popular films like Spy Kids, Machete, From Dusk Till Dawn, Heat, and Desperado.
Stephanie Beatriz as Bloats and Wilmer Valderrama as Higgins
Everyone’s talking about Bruno, but can we PLEASE talk about Stephanie Beatriz? She’s incredible! From the super serious Rosa Diaz on Brooklyn Nine-Nine to voicing the amazing Mirabel in Encanto, she can do anything. And now? She’s playing a hippopotamus… who’s a police officer! It’s honestly iconic. As Bloats, she gives Judy and Nick a real run for their money when they hit Marsh Market looking for reptiles. I’m seriously blown away by her range!
Wilmer Valderrama voices the second hippopotamus police officer, Higgins. While he’s famous for roles like Fez in That ’70s Show and Nick Torres on NCIS, he also voiced a character in Encanto with Yonas Beatriz, meaning he’s experienced with voice acting. Both of these actors have delivered award-worthy performances, highlighting the need for the Academy to recognize voice acting with its own Oscar category.
Alan Tudyk as Duke Weaselton

Alan Tudyk is returning for Zootopia 2, reprising his role as the sly and greedy Duke Weaselton, who’s always looking to make a quick buck by selling bootleg DVDs like Pig Hero 6 and Wreck-It Rhino. Tudyk is famous for completely transforming himself into his characters, and in Zootopia 2 alone, he voices not only Weaselton but also a French raccoon chef, a character named Molt Kahl, and a reporter. He’s well-known for voicing a diverse range of characters, including Iago in Disney’s Aladdin, Heihei in Moana and Moana 2, and Gary in James Gunn’s Superman. This makes it surprisingly difficult to recognize him amongst the many voices in Zootopia – which is exactly why he’s such a valuable actor.
John Leguizamo as Antony Snootley

Okay, I have to talk about this! The actor who voiced Bruno in Encanto, John Leguizamo, is going to be in Zootopia 2! He’s had such an amazing career – from Moulin Rouge! to being the hilarious Sid the Sloth in Ice Age – and now he’s playing Antony Snootley, an anteater who’s a total crime boss and smuggler. He might look charming, but it’s kinda funny knowing anteaters don’t actually have teeth!
Jenny Slate as Dawn Bellwether

Get ready! Dawn Bellwether is returning in Zootopia 2, and she’s likely to cause trouble. Sources say she’ll appear in at least one prison scene, meaning we’ll hear Jenny Slate reprise her role. Slate is well-known for her voice work in popular projects like Obvious Child, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, The Secret Life of Pets, Bob’s Burgers, and Big Mouth.
Yvette Nicole Brown as Bearoness Bear

The Bearoness, a glamorous character who appears at the Zootennial Gala in Zootopia, might be a new face, but her voice is definitely recognizable. Yvette Nicole Brown, known for her roles in shows like Community, The Mayor, and Big Shot, as well as appearances on daytime talk shows The View, The Talk, and The Real, provides the voice for the Bearoness. You might also remember her as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in Avengers: Endgame or as Coach Roberts in Inside Out 2. And if that wasn’t enough, Yvette Nicole Brown will also be voicing an EMT Otter in the upcoming Zootopia 2!
Cecily Strong as Little Judith

Fans will be delighted to see Mr. Big, the small but imposing Arctic shrew, and his daughter Fru Fru return in Zootopia 2. This time, they’re joined by Fru Fru’s daughter, Little Judith! A memorable moment in the trailer shows Little Judith asking Nick to kiss her “wing” – which looks a lot like a Ring Pop candy! Little Judith is clearly a pampered princess, and is voiced by Cecily Strong, who has been a cast member on Saturday Night Live for 11 seasons. Beyond her work on the famous sketch comedy show – home to many successful comedians – Strong has also lent her voice to films like Leo and The Garfield Movie, and starred alongside Keegan-Michael Key in the musical comedy Schmigadoon!
Josh Gad as Paul Moledebrandt

Honestly, every police department seems to have that one incredibly stressed IT person, and Josh Gad plays Paul Moledebrandt – that guy! He definitely doesn’t seem thrilled with his job, especially when Nick’s crazy office pranks end up with Paul getting drenched in soda. But if anyone can make a grumpy character funny, it’s Josh Gad. He became a Disney favorite after being hilarious as Olaf in Frozen and Frozen II. I also loved him in The Book of Mormon on Broadway and as LeFou, Gaston’s goofy sidekick, in the live-action Beauty and the Beast.
Dwayne Johnson as Zeke, AKA That Dik-Dik Stuck in That Tuba

Given Dwayne Johnson’s incredible success and range – he’s currently Hollywood’s highest-paid actor and recently impressed in roles like a UFC champion in The Smashing Machine and as Maui in the upcoming live-action Moana – it seems perfectly reasonable to imagine him in Zootopia 2. In fact, why not picture him as a small antelope accidentally trapped inside a tuba? He’s already committed to several other projects, including Red Notice 2, Jungle Cruise 2, Fast X: Part 2, and Jumanji 4. Hopefully, he can find a way out of that tuba when the time comes!
