Following her initial Golden Globe victory for her role in “Emilia Perez,” Zoe Saldaña is voicing appreciation towards the movie creators who have backed her talents throughout her 25-year career journey.
After the award ceremony, Saldaña shared that she received a message from James Cameron, the director of “Avatar”, following her win. “I was seated in the audience when I got a message from him, who’s currently in New Zealand working on ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’. Despite all these years, he still believes in me. This belief, for me, fuels my ambition to keep growing as an artist.
In an interview for the October issue of EbMaster, Cameron praised the actor graciously: “I’ve collaborated with Oscar-winning performers, and Zoe doesn’t fall short in any way. Her acting ability is on par with theirs, if not superior. However, since she portrays a computer-generated character in my movie, some people seem to undervalue her performance, which I find utterly baffling. She can switch from elegant to incredibly wild in the blink of an eye. Truly, she’s a fearsome lioness.
Saldaña, for quite some time, has been a significant figure at the box office, starring in the top three highest-grossing movies ever made: “Avatar” from 2009, its sequel “The Way of Water” in 2022 (placing first and third respectively), and “Avengers: Endgame” from 2019, which is in between these two. However, this year, the actress who played a role in “Guardians of the Galaxy” has received recognition and critical acclaim that she hasn’t experienced before in her acting career.
She expressed that she’s experiencing genuine joy due to the sense of being in the moment, having spent 25 years in this profession. She’s always had employment and has been fortunate enough to work with exceptional, gifted filmmakers who have faith in her. This acknowledgement is crucial for her artistic journey. She’s content, being 46 years old, and there was a time not too long ago when she contemplated retiring to live a more rural life. However, she recognizes that she is an artist at heart, needing daily creativity. She can’t imagine what else she would do.
Additionally, Saldaña acknowledged “Emilia Perez,” director Jacques Audiard, expressing her gratitude for their faith in her abilities. She admitted, “I owe a debt of gratitude to filmmakers like Jacques Audiard who, after discussions, tryouts, and pledges that I could deliver, ultimately chose to place their trust in me. And it proved successful.”
Or simply:
Saldaña thanked director Emilia Perez (Jacques Audiard), acknowledging her faith in Saldaña’s abilities during the casting process. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, stating that she was grateful they believed in her potential and their bet on her paid off.
