As a seasoned movie buff with decades of cinematic adventures under my belt, I must say that the latest move by Sycamore Studios has me absolutely starstruck! The acquisition of “Zita the Spacegirl” graphic novel series is an absolute cosmic event in the realm of animation.
Fresh off the blocks, Sycamore Studios has secured yet another prestigious piece of intellectual property for a potential movie rendition.
In August, Christian McGuigan and Timothy Reckart established Sycamore Productions. This new company has acquired the rights to the popular graphic novel series “Zita the Spacegirl.” This project is part of a growing development lineup that also includes an animated adaptation of the classic “Doctor Dolittle,” being penned by screenwriters Cal Brunker and Bob Barlen, known for their work on “Paw Patrol: The Movie” and “Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie.
The purchase follows a prosperous Series A funding round that reportedly received more investment than required, bringing in millions for Sycamore’s operations and production activities.
In the words of Ben Hatke, I embark on a thrilling journey titled “Zita,” where I, a fearless girl, find myself hurled into an interstellar escapade when my dearest companion is snatched by extraterrestrial beings. My relentless resolve to return home and my selfless acts of bravery along the way turn me into a beacon of heroism across the galaxies. This tale was once slated for animation at Fox Animation under Peter Chernin’s guidance, and has garnered numerous accolades in the publishing world, including the prestigious American Library Association Notable Children’s Book prize.
CEO McGuigan expressed excitement about the prospect of turning ‘Zita the Spacegirl’ into a movie for Sycamore. Ben Hatke has constructed a world rich in creativity, emotion, and valor, and we can’t wait to collaborate with him to produce an aesthetically pleasing and impactful film that will motivate children and families worldwide,” is one way of paraphrasing the original statement.
Sycamore has expanded its corporate team with the addition of seasoned animation executive, Cooper Waterman, known for his work on “Casper the Friendly Ghost,” “Stuart Little,” and the “Alvin and the Chipmunks” series.
