Do you remember a time when Zack Snyder’s movies weren’t so controversial? Peacock is bringing one of his earlier, and arguably best, action films to its streaming service. Before films like Sucker Punch, Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League sparked debate among fans – and before Rebel Moon tried (and failed) to be a gritty Star Wars, Snyder directed 300, a truly memorable action film starring Gerard Butler. Now, you’ll be able to watch it on Peacock.
Get ready to stream the action-packed Roman epic, 300, on Peacock starting December 1st! While director Zack Snyder’s films are sometimes criticized for focusing more on visuals than story, that’s not a problem with 300. The incredible style and non-stop action are the main draw. Based on the graphic novel by comic book legend Frank Miller (also known for The Dark Knight Returns), the film is a dramatic retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae, which took place during the Greco-Persian Wars in 480 BCE. Gerard Butler stars as King Leonidas, leading 300 Spartan warriors against the massive Persian army. Here’s what the movie is about:
In 480 B.C., Persia, under King Xerxes (played by Rodrigo Santoro), was at war with Greece. The Battle of Thermopylae saw King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) of Sparta bravely lead a small force of warriors against the enormous Persian army. Knowing they would likely die, the Spartans’ courageous stand motivated all of Greece to join together and fight against the Persians.
Let’s be honest, everyone remembers the incredible action and striking visuals of 300, but I think the cast often gets overlooked. Beyond Gerard Butler’s breakout performance, you’ve got some seriously talented actors like Lena Headey, David Wenham, Dominic West, Rodrigo Santoro, and even a young Michael Fassbender! This film was a huge win for director Zack Snyder too – it really put him on the map. Considering it only cost around $65 million to make, raking in over $450 million at the box office is phenomenal. 300 not only solidified Butler as an action hero, but it launched Snyder’s career, leading to films like Watchmen and Man of Steel, and more recently, the unfortunately cancelled Twilight of the Gods series.
‘300’ Is “One of the Best Action Movies Ever Made”

Warner Bros.
Fans of Zack Snyder clearly still love 300. Although critics gave it a mixed reception (61% on Rotten Tomatoes), audiences overwhelmingly enjoy the movie, giving it an impressive 89% rating.
Even nearly two decades after its release in 2006, the film 300 remains incredibly popular with audiences. One fan on Rotten Tomatoes called it “one of the best action movies ever made and a true icon of the 2000s.” Another described it as “a testosterone-fueled war poem — loud, bloody, and unforgettable in its focus on style rather than realism.”
