While zombie movies aren’t as popular as they used to be, they were huge in the 2000s. Films like Zack Snyder’s remake of *Dawn of the Dead* helped bring the genre back to life, and fans can now pre-order a special steelbook Blu-ray edition on Amazon for $45. It will be released on December 2nd.

Zack Snyder launched his feature film career in 2004 with his remake of George Romero’s horror classic, *Dawn of the Dead*. He’d previously directed music videos and commercials. While staying true to the original’s premise – survivors sheltering in a mall – Snyder updated the film for contemporary audiences, focusing on intense, fast-paced action. Unlike Romero’s 1978 film, which blended slow suspense with social commentary, Snyder’s version prioritized unrelenting terror and featured overwhelming waves of zombies. The film’s opening sequence, highlighted on the steelbook cover, is widely considered a standout achievement and helped establish Snyder’s career, leading to projects like *300*, *Watchmen*, *Sucker Punch*, and *Man of Steel*.
I’m so excited about the new Dawn of the Dead 4K release! If you can’t wait, the standard 4K edition is available now for just $22 – it’s a great deal since it was originally $40. It’s also cool you can grab the original to see how much has changed. I’m a big fan of Romero’s version, and it actually got a 4K Blu-ray release a few years ago. This Collector’s Edition is amazing because it includes *all three* cuts of the film! The theatrical and extended “Cannes” cuts are beautifully restored from the original negatives, and the Argento Cut is sourced from a 4K scan of the interpositive. Plus, it’s packed with extras – there’s old commentary from Romero and Tom Savini, new featurettes, and interviews filmed recently. It’s a must-have for any fan!
Though often celebrated as a landmark zombie film, *Dawn of the Dead* wasn’t actually George A. Romero’s first foray into the genre. He explored the concept a decade earlier with *Night of the Living Dead*, a classic that eventually received a special edition release from the Criterion Collection. This new 4K version of *Night of the Living Dead* was carefully overseen by Romero, along with key members of the original team. The package includes the film on both Blu-ray and a disc full of bonus features, and it’s available for $50 (or $27.64 for just the Blu-ray). It’s a must-see for anyone who loves zombie movies.
For Halloween viewing, we also suggest George A. Romero’s *Day of the Dead*, available on Blu-ray for $10. *Return of the Living Dead* is offered as a 4K steelbook or a collector’s edition, with both sequels also on Blu-ray. Surprisingly, *Return of the Living Dead 3* combines low-budget horror with a ’90s take on the *Romeo and Juliet* story.
