refint/games has released update 1.0.1 for Ys vs. Trails in the Sky: Alternative Saga on Nintendo Switch. This update adds visual improvements specifically for the Switch 2 console.
According to refint/games, the latest update will allow the Switch version of the game to run at 4K resolution with 60 frames per second when docked on the Nintendo Switch 2, and at 1080p with 60fps in handheld mode. It’s important to note this isn’t a game built specifically for the Switch 2; these are visual enhancements achieved through backwards compatibility.
I’ll be checking out the new update and how well it works with the Switch, specifically testing if older versions of the game are still compatible soon.

Full patch notes for today’s update are now available. You can find them below:
A new update is now available for Ys vs. Trails in the Sky on all platforms. Here’s what’s changed:
- Adjusted an animation for the skill Draguna Edge (Agate).
- Fixed some flickering effects.
- Fixed some connection inconsistencies on LAN Mode.
- PC: Fixed a bug that caused wallpapers to be rendered incorrectly on certain resolutions.
- Nintendo Switch: Implemented various fixes and additional QoL features, some of them already present on other platforms: Message log, expanded training mode options, music-player mode and BGM Info Display. The full patch notes for Switch are below.
- Nintendo Switch: Resolution is enhanced depending on the console model’s available performance.
The Nintendo Switch-specific patch notes are below
This update includes several improvements and bug fixes. We’ve refined translations and text alignment throughout the game. New features include a message log accessible during story sequences (by pressing up on the directional buttons), a display for background music information, and subtitles for the ending movies. We’ve also added three new achievements to the Record menu and support for HD rumble on PlayStation 5. A master volume setting has been added, and network mode error handling has been improved.
Visually, we’ve adjusted brightness and transparency for certain objects and effects to enhance quality and accuracy. Story portraits have been repositioned, and animation stuttering has been fixed. We’ve corrected issues with darkened textures, missing English voice lines, and control stick inversion when using a single Joy-Con.
We’ve also resolved a critical bug that could cause crashes at the start of battles, and fixed problems with flickering effects and unintended inputs from disconnected controllers. Numerous other minor bugs and improvements have been implemented.

Ys and Trails in the Sky: Alternative Saga is now released on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.
The refint/games team has published a new, in-depth Steam blog post detailing the latest remaster features. You can read it here:
Message Log Feature
If you need a refresher on the story, you can quickly catch up during cutscenes. By pressing the “Up” button (usually W on keyboard or the D-Pad Up on a controller), you’ll open a message log. This log lets you review the entire story from the beginning, and even replay each voice line. This feature is common in recent games from Falcom and fits seamlessly into the experience.
BGM Info Display
We’ve brought back a popular feature: a background music (BGM) info display! This small pop-up appears in the corner of the screen whenever a song starts, or only the first time you hear it. With so many tracks in the game, it’s a great way to keep track of the music you like. It can also help you decide which songs to purchase from the shop to complete your music collection.
Extra Training Mode options
We’ve made a few improvements to training mode to help players better understand how moves work and offer more options for practice. Now, pressing a specific button combination (Skill Combo + Camera Toggle – currently R + Select) will reset the round, returning all characters to their starting positions. We think these changes will be especially helpful for players who enjoy practicing and perfecting their skills!
Rich Presence
We’ve added a feature that lets your friends see what you’re doing in the game, like which level and character you’re using, on platforms like Steam. This information also appears in your Steam Timeline with your game recordings. You can turn this off in the Options menu if you’d prefer. We’re also working on adding support for Discord and showing even more details about your gameplay soon.
Other additions
Before we finish up, here are a few final updates. Some of these changes affect all versions of the product, while others are unique to specific platforms.
The game’s interface was originally designed with a large size for the PSP’s smaller screen. Now, with larger screens being common, the game starts with a smaller interface to create more play space. You can customize this further: choose “Small” for an even more compact interface, or “Large” to match the original PSP size. This setting only applies when playing with one player, as a larger interface is needed to show each player’s abilities when multiple players are present.
Although users won’t notice, we’ve improved how textures are compressed using a faster method called LZ4. This saves about 400MB of installation space. We didn’t need a complex packaging system for this update, and the console versions already have their own built-in compression to further reduce file sizes on each platform.
The game now features Steam achievements that correspond to the original in-game achievements. Each achievement also has its own unique artwork, so keep an eye out for those!
Conclusion
That concludes our look at the remastered features. We hope this series has enhanced your enjoyment of this fantastic celebration of Falcom’s work.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to this remaster. That includes our dedicated internal team, our helpful beta testers, the community members who consistently share their thoughts, and the content creators who covered our work. Your support and excitement have been incredibly important throughout the entire process.
We believe these improvements have resulted in the best version of the game. It’s been incredibly fun and a privilege to work on this project from the beginning, and we’re excited to continue polishing it with future updates.
See you next time,
