YouTuber who mowed down cop & threatened to ‘eviscerate’ courtroom sentenced to prison

A YouTuber who hit a police officer with his car and threatened prosecutors with his intelligence in court has been sentenced to prison after reaching a plea agreement.

Erik Conover, a YouTuber known as Erik Van Conover with around 3 million subscribers, admitted guilt to lesser charges of assault and reckless behavior. This plea relates to an incident on March 15th in New Hampshire where a police officer from Bartlett was seriously hurt.

Police reports show that officers initially noticed Conover speeding, going 55 mph in a 35 mph zone. When they tried to pull him over, he drove off, leading to an eight-mile chase. Officer Cameron Emmett, from Bartlett, tried to calm the situation as he approached Conover’s Jeep, but Conover sped towards him. Emmett ended up rolling onto the hood of the Jeep, riding there for a distance, and was then thrown about 40 feet.

Conover celebrated by punching the roof of his Jeep, then led police on a 28-mile chase before officers used spike strips to finally stop him.

YouTuber threatened to “eviscerate every single person” with his intelligence

The YouTuber’s initial court hearing became popular online when he unexpectedly issued a strong and confrontational statement while appearing remotely.

He stated that if anyone questioned his mental sharpness, he would immediately and decisively demonstrate his intelligence, overpowering them completely. He added that this wasn’t arrogance, just a statement of fact.

Conover, age 36, received a prison sentence of at least four years, with a possible maximum of ten years, after reaching a plea agreement in court on December 5th.

Conover apologized to the court for his behavior, explaining that he was in the middle of a severe manic episode related to bipolar disorder at the time of the incident. He has since been diagnosed with the disorder and will receive mental health treatment while in prison, as part of a legal agreement.

Okay, so Officer Emmett gave his statement after the plea deal, and honestly, he seemed pretty disappointed. He basically said it wasn’t what he wanted to see happen and really stressed that this whole thing is going to have lasting consequences for everyone involved. It felt like he was asking the court to really understand the damage that’s been done.

Emmett explained he wasn’t seeking revenge, but rather asking for someone to take responsibility for their actions. He emphasized that the damage wasn’t fleeting or insignificant, and that his life had been changed forever.

Conover’s legal team claimed he feared for his safety when the officer approached his vehicle. However, prosecutors argued his actions were incredibly dangerous and showed a blatant disregard for public safety.

As part of the agreement, the YouTuber will start receiving mental health care, including a specific treatment plan, when his sentence begins.
