YouTuber Ross Creations under fire for making animal catapult that launches opossums

YouTuber Ross Creations is facing criticism for a recent prank involving an ‘opossum launcher’ – a device that shoots opossums into the air. Many people are calling it animal cruelty.

Ross Creations, a Florida-based influencer, runs a popular YouTube channel called ‘Vlog Creations.’ He’s known for creating funny inventions and using them to playfully prank people.

His projects have become incredibly popular, racking up millions of views apiece. As a result, he’s gained more than 5 million subscribers on the platform and over 2 million followers on Instagram.

He’s known for his playful pranks involving everyday objects. For example, he once reprogrammed a Coca-Cola vending machine to give out hot dogs instead of drinks, and in another video, he rigged a crosswalk sign with a speaker to playfully startle people waiting to cross the street.

But his newest creation is causing a lot of controversy. Many people are criticizing him online, claiming it involves animal cruelty.

Ross Creations faces backlash over ‘opossum launcher’ invention

On November 30, 2025, Ross Creations shared a video on Instagram of a device he built, which he named the ‘Opossum Launcher’.

Okay, so this thing is exactly what you’d think – you bait a trap, and when an opossum goes for the food, it gets launched upwards like a projectile! It definitely makes a noise when it lands, a pretty noticeable ‘thud’, actually.

In the video, Ross watched footage of his trap launching an opossum into the air. He seemed a little shocked that the animal survived the fall, as it walked away with a limp a few seconds later.

“It just walks away,” he said, simply captioning the video, “W.”

People commenting on the post, however, had a very different reaction. Ross’s Instagram post now includes a note pointing to Florida Statute 828.12, which legally defines animal cruelty as things like overloading, torturing, depriving animals of food or shelter, or unnecessarily harming or killing them.

People convicted of animal cruelty may face jail time, fines, or both, with fines potentially reaching thousands of dollars.

One person commented that the subject likely suffered internal bleeding, walked away, and died. They also expressed disappointment with the content, despite generally liking the creator’s work.

Someone expressed their disappointment, saying they used to like the person, but this behavior was causing them to reconsider. They asked that it not happen again.

“I love your content, but please don’t hurt animals,” another pleaded.

Ross has not yet responded to these concerns at the time of writing.

Although opossums can sometimes carry diseases that affect people, their naturally low body temperature makes it unlikely they’ll transmit them. This is particularly true for rabies, as the virus struggles to survive in their cooler bodies.

While these animals are often seen rummaging through garbage, they’re usually peaceful and prefer to pretend to be dead rather than fight – which is where the expression ‘playing possum’ comes from.

Plus, these animals are great at controlling pests naturally. They eat things like mice, cockroaches, and ticks, which can lower the chance of diseases like Lyme disease and help maintain a healthy environment.
