YouTube user John Hicks showcased the extensive destruction brought about by wildfires across the Los Angeles region, winning appreciation from viewers for his firsthand accounts of the disaster’s aftermath.
On Tuesday, the 7th of January, a modest backyard blaze in the Pacific Palisades district expanded into a formidable wildfire, engulfing approximately 27 square miles of terrain and obliterating more than 1,000 structures, which encompassed homes, businesses, and significant historical sites.
In various locations across the region, numerous fires have been ignited due to intense Santa Ana winds, resembling a hurricane, causing blazes in Malibu, the Hollywood Hills, and other surrounding regions as well.
Firefighters strive to control the flames, while residents record the devastation as they flee their houses… however, one content creator is venturing near the destruction for a closer look.
YouTuber shares “apocalyptic” damage from LA fires
John Hicks serves as a content creator on the video-sharing platform YouTube, maintaining an impressive subscriber base of more than one and a half million. Hicks frequently captures his adventures on different types of scooters, bikes, and other modes of transportation, offering his viewers a glimpse into his travel experiences.
While the fires raged across Los Angeles, Hicks pedaled through the damaged zones to observe the results, capturing sights he likened to “scenes straight out of an apocalypse.
He clarified that it’s extremely difficult for him to take breaths in this location, due to the bleak and post-apocalyptic atmosphere. The air is heavy with particles, making breathing challenging. Consequently, he needs to wear a mask today.
Hicks managed to grab buildings as they crumbled into ruins during the fire, whole neighborhoods turned to ash, and cars damaged beyond repair by the flames.
Hicks remarked with a heavy heart, “This place is eerily poignant,” as he looked over the remnants of what used to be someone’s house. “All that remains are the echoes of memories and personal belongings, vanished.
Additionally, Hicks recorded some blast incidents and the noise of a gas pipeline igniting. In less than six hours, his video has garnered almost half a million views, with many viewers and locals expressing gratitude for highlighting the devastating impact of wildfires.
One person stated, ‘This video showcases vital grassroots actions that are necessary.’ It provides a genuine glimpse into everyday experiences. Thanks for sharing.
As a concerned observer, I want to emphasize that many hardworking individuals are being impacted by this fire, not just the wealthy or famous. While the Palisades fire may grab headlines due to its proximity to celebrity homes and luxurious beachfront properties, it’s crucial to remember that this disaster is affecting small businesses, families with deep roots in the community, renters, and many others who call this place home. It’s truly heartbreaking.
Due to the fires, people in various parts of Los Angeles have been asked to leave their homes, including well-known personalities such as FaZe Clan members and Cash Nasty, among others. As a result, events like Valkyrae’s streaming event and shroud’s ‘Fragathon’ have temporarily halted until the weather improves.
