YouTuber KurtJMac has finally finished an incredibly long quest in Minecraft. He walked from the starting point (spawn) all the way to the Far Lands, a goal he started pursuing over ten years ago with his Far Lands or Bust series.
The creator originally started the challenge in March 2011 with Minecraft Beta 1.7.3. It has since evolved into a fundraiser, collecting approximately $500,000 for multiple charities.
You can follow the whole adventure on Kurt’s YouTube channel. He started sharing videos about it 14 years ago, with the first one being the beginning of the series.
Guinness World Records has officially acknowledged Kurt’s achievements, granting him the record for the highest amount of money earned through a charity walk within a video game, achieved by a single person.
There and (not) back again
The Far Lands are a strange geographical feature found approximately 12,550,821 blocks away from the starting point of the game. At this distance, the game’s system for creating the world begins to fail, causing the landscape to become distorted and appear as a massive, chaotic wall of mixed terrain.
After more than 14 years of playing, KurtJMac has finally reached the Minecraft far lands by walking an incredible 12 MILLION blocks from the starting point!

Getting to that point on foot, without using any tricks or easy ways, is something very few players – likely less than ten – have managed to do.
It’s unclear what Kurt’s future plans are now that his 14-year adventure is over, but he likely will take some time away from Minecraft. A break seems probable.
Many impressive things have happened in Mojang’s famous game world. Just last September, a player managed to build a working AI language model inside the game, and it could even have simple chats. It’s quite a feat!
