Super Louis 64, a popular content creator on YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok, has created an app that controls video game characters using real-world exercise.
Okay, so to get this app working, you’ll need a Bluetooth adapter and your Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons. If you’ve ever used Ring Fit Adventure, you know these controllers are pretty good at tracking movement – even when they’re inside the leg strap! You’ll need that leg strap accessory too, by the way.
To get started, players secure the leg strap around their thigh and insert a Nintendo Joy-Con. Then, Louis’s ‘Joy-Cardio’ program detects leg movements and converts them into the ‘W’ key press in any compatible game, allowing you to control the game with your leg.
To use the Joy-Cons, both controllers need to be connected to your computer. It’s an easy way to make gaming more active – one user, Louis, says he even breaks a sweat while playing Mario Kart World on his exercise bike!
Great news! Joy-Cardio version 0.1 is now available for PC! This lets you play games using your own physical exercise. Simply connect a pair of Joy-Cons to your exercise bike or treadmill and turn your workout into a game controller – walk or bike in real life to control the action in the game!

Joy-Cardio lets users choose between a stationary bike and a treadmill for their workouts. While those are the only options right now, the app’s creator, Louis, plans to add more equipment in a future update.
The app lets users adjust the intensity of their workout. Higher levels require you to walk, run, or bike faster to register your activity.
Players can exercise to move their characters with YouTuber-created app
Currently, Joy-Cardio is designed for Windows computers only and doesn’t work on Macs or Linux. While it can be used with consoles, it’s a bit complicated and requires a special adapter to translate the controls. The app doesn’t yet support the Joy-Cons for the next Nintendo Switch, but the developer, Louis, plans to add compatibility in a future update.
Louis hopes Joy-Cardio will work like Xbox controllers, rather than just acting as a keyboard. He’s also developing a special ‘boxing mode’ to give fighting game enthusiasts a more realistic experience than traditional arcade controllers provide.
He’s not the only content creator getting creative with gaming. Twitch streamer Perrikaryal previously beat an Elden Ring boss by playing the game solely with her mind. She used an EEG device to read her brain activity and translate her thoughts into game commands.
