The popular YouTube channel The Armchair Historian, famous for its animated explanations of history, has announced it will stop making new videos after the end of this year.
He’s gained a large following on YouTube by creating animated videos that explain complicated subjects like wars, politics, and world history in an easy-to-understand way. His channel has over 2.5 million subscribers and his videos have been viewed more than 400 million times.
On December 4th, the creator announced they won’t be releasing any new content in 2026. They also confirmed that all currently available content will remain accessible – they have no plans to remove or sell it. A detailed explanation of these decisions will be shared in January.
He announced on X that he’s stopping all new video creation at the end of the year and doesn’t intend to release any new content in 2026. He also stated he won’t be selling his channel, and all existing videos will remain available.
I wanted to give you advance notice about some changes. I’m stopping production of new videos at the end of this year, and I don’t plan to release any new content in 2026. Don’t worry, I won’t be selling the channel, and I’ll keep all the existing videos available. I’m working on a video to…

His separate subscription service, AHTV, is also closing down. People with yearly subscriptions will receive refunds, and more details will be emailed this month.
Creator says the move is a personal decision
So, after everyone started talking about it, Armchair Historian put out another message to let us know he’s okay and hasn’t had any problems with YouTube taking away his money. He said this was his own choice, and he’s planning to explain everything fully in a video coming out sometime in January. I’m glad to hear he’s doing alright and looking forward to hearing more when he’s ready to share!
People rushed to share their reactions to the unexpected announcement, and many expressed disappointment about not getting new material.
“I’m very saddened to hear this,” one user said. “Wishing you all the best.”
Another commented: “Sad to see you go, but good luck to your new endeavors.”
“Sorry to hear. Wishing you and the team well,” replied a third.
The YouTuber launched his first video game, Master of Command, back in October 2025 to “very positive” reviews from fans.
