YouTube TV Could Lose CBS, Comedy Central, MTV and More in Contract Dispute, Paramount Warns

YouTube TV users are being informed by Paramount Global that popular channels like CBS, BET, Comedy Central, MTV, and Nickelodeon may cease to be available on the platform starting from this coming Thursday, February 13th.

Besides Paramount Channel, other at-risk stations on YouTube TV encompass CBS Sports Network and Paramount Network. The disagreement could also potentially take away Paramount+ and BET+ from YouTube TV’s Primetime Channels.

YouTube TV is trying to make Paramount accept one-sided conditions, which could potentially result in Paramount’s channels being removed from YouTube TV, as well as the disappearance of Paramount+ and BET+ from YouTube’s Primetime Channels, starting on February 13, according to a statement from a Paramount representative.

In a recent blog update, YouTube shared that they’ve been actively negotiating with Paramount to strike a mutually beneficial deal, maintaining channels like CBS and CBS Sports on YouTube TV without burdening subscribers with extra costs. Regrettably, despite our sincere efforts in negotiations, we haven’t managed to reach an agreement so far.

The disagreement over prices with YouTube TV has escalated, as their base rate will increase by $10 monthly starting January 13, 2025, resulting in a new cost of $82.99 per month from the previous $72.99.

As reported by a representative from Paramount, they have extended several equitable proposals to sustain their established partnership with Google’s YouTube TV. These offers grant subscribers access to the entire spectrum of Paramount’s entertainment, news, and sports programming. The representative further stated that Paramount has become an indispensable partner for YouTube TV households, boasting a diverse lineup of popular channels such as CBS, the most-watched network in America, and top-rated shows like Yellowstone on Paramount Network, which currently leads as the highest-rated entertainment program on cable.

Paramount proudly boasts a history of effectively and cordially renegotiating partnerships with all significant distribution channels, and they plan to persist in their endeavors to strike a fresh deal with YouTube TV.

More to come.
