YouTube has addressed the recent removal of several popular channels known for creating low-quality, AI-generated content – often called “AI slop” – as well as the deletion of some of their videos.
Artificial intelligence is now common on social media. You can easily find AI-created videos – like dancing babies – on platforms such as Facebook and TikTok. Even on X (formerly Twitter), the AI tool Grok has been integrated, but it’s already caused some problems.
As a YouTube fan, I’ve noticed AI popping up everywhere lately! There’s tons of AI-created stuff on Shorts, which is interesting, but also a bit worrying. I’ve also seen creators really upset with YouTube because AI systems are sometimes used to ban channels – even if those bans aren’t deserved. It’s a tricky situation!
Starting in late January, YouTube began enforcing its rules against AI-generated content by banning 11 channels that primarily featured it. They also removed all videos from an additional six channels.

Okay, so Kapwing did some digging and found these channels together had a massive 4.72 billion views and 35 million subscribers! Seriously, that’s a huge hit to YouTube, it wasn’t some small thing they just shrugged off.
A YouTube representative explained to Yahoo Finance that the platform prohibits spam, scams, and any other misleading activities that harm its users.

YouTube has committed to addressing the increasing amount of AI-generated content on its platform. In a recent letter, CEO Neal Mohan acknowledged concerns about the rise of poor-quality AI videos, which he called “AI slop.”
We’re working to limit the amount of poor-quality AI-generated content online. We’re using and improving the same technology that already effectively fights spam, clickbait, and other low-value, repetitive content, as explained by a representative.
Mohan also acknowledged that AI is here to stay and will be a tool for creators – they’ll be able to use it to create Shorts featuring themselves. He emphasized the platform’s goal of being the best possible space for creators, stating they are focused on building a truly top-tier platform.
