YouTube music subscribers have called on the platform to ‘deal with’ the rise of “AI slop” as they keep being recommended AI-generated songs.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly common, and its growth has sparked debate online. This is particularly true in fields like art, music, and content creation.
Both musicians and listeners on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music are pushing back against the use of artificial intelligence in music. Spotify, in particular, has faced criticism for allowing AI to create songs that mimic deceased artists, and has since removed 75 million low-quality, or ‘spammy,’ tracks.
YouTube Music has also come under fire to start 2026 for similar issues with apparent AI content.
YouTube Music users sick of AI-generated songs
Look, as a YouTube Music user, a lot of us are seriously annoyed right now. It feels like the platform is getting flooded with low-quality, AI-generated music – we’re calling it ‘AI slop’ – and we really want YouTube to do something about it, and soon. It’s ruining the experience!
It’s becoming increasingly frustrating. When I opened YouTube Music today, six out of ten news recommendations were clearly AI-generated and low quality. Just the other day, half the songs in my automatically created playlist were the same. And giving feedback – saying I’m not interested or disliking the song – doesn’t seem to help, as it only applies to that single track, not the artist as a whole, according to one Reddit user.
One person expressed relief that they created their playlists earlier, saying a large portion of recent new music seems to be created by AI and that this AI-generated music needs to be addressed.
Dear Google, that’s not, what I’m paying for. AI slop is really getting out of hand.

Lots of users are requesting a feature to block certain artists, preventing AI-generated songs from appearing in their playlists. One user stated, “Google needs to add an AI filter quickly, or I’ll cancel my subscription.”
Someone else added that we should feel comfortable exploring new music without feeling pressured by the presence of artificial intelligence.
Whether YouTube Music will address the growing number of AI-created songs and artists is still uncertain, but many agree this is a widespread issue for the entire music industry.
