YouTube apologizes for banning creator’s channel over comment they wrote at 13-years-old

YouTube has apologized and restored a creator’s channel after it was temporarily removed due to a comment they made as a 13-year-old on a different account.

YouTube, which is owned by Google, has recently faced criticism because many creators have had their accounts unexpectedly suspended. This has caused them to lose income and a significant number of videos.

A content creator named Norse797 recently gained attention after their popular channel – boasting over 100,000 subscribers and 25 million views – disappeared from social media.

I was so confused when I heard Norse was banned! Apparently, it wasn’t for something he did recently, but because of “spam and deceptive practices,” according to the official reason. It’s a bit of a shock, honestly.

“YouTube terminated my 108K channel over a comment I made at 13 years old,” he explained.

YouTube shut down my channel, which had over 108,000 subscribers, because of a comment I made when I was 13 years old. I never received any warnings, but was suddenly banned for supposedly engaging in “spam and deceptive practices.” After months of trying to resolve the issue with YouTube support and filing appeals, they finally told me the real reason: they claimed I was trying to evade a ban. It seems their automated systems…

After repeatedly contacting support and appealing their decision, I finally learned the actual reason for the ban: they claimed I was trying to avoid a previous ban. Their automated system connected my current channel to an old account I made when I was 13 – an account that hadn’t been used in years and only had a few comments on it.

The Norwegian creator voiced strong criticism of YouTube on X, claiming the platform undermined his efforts to grow his channel and then removed the explanation for why his content was taken down.

Norse explained that his account email was compromised years ago after he clicked on a deceptive sponsorship email. He reported the hacking incident to YouTube, but they stated they had already deleted the data and wouldn’t look into it, simply closing the case without any further investigation.

YouTube, a massive platform worth over $3 trillion, unexpectedly shut down my channel, which had over 108,000 subscribers, without any prior notice. My channel was thriving with a growing audience and had already received millions of views. The reason given was ‘ban evasion,’ supposedly linked to an old account I made when I was 13…

Just one link took everything away – years of effort, more than 100,000 followers, and the community I’d built, all vanished.

YouTube apologizes after banning user for comment they made as a teen

After Norse’s story blew up on social media, YouTube stepped in and responded to the backlash.

The video site apologized for the delay and any frustration it caused.

We’ve checked your channel carefully and confirmed it follows our Community Guidelines. It’s now been restored. We made an error, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

The YouTuber and his community were overjoyed by the news.

He happily announced his thanks to everyone who shared and supported him, saying he was incredibly grateful that his issue had been resolved.

I’m thrilled to announce my YouTube channel is back! 🎉 After nearly a year of appeals, and despite being recently told the decision was final, YouTube has confirmed my termination was a mistake and reinstated my channel. Thank you so much to everyone who supported me by liking and sharing my posts.

Even after fixing his own account issue, the YouTuber noted that many others were still struggling and promised to help them recover their accounts.

“Thousands of creators are still unfairly banned and I’ll keep fighting for you too!”

YouTube’s AI account moderation hasn’t just caused trouble for creators, but for viewers, as well.

Earlier in 2025, the platform launched a system in the United States to estimate users’ ages. If the system thinks someone is younger than 18, it requires them to verify their identity with a Google ID, a measure that security experts criticized as an excessive and unsettling practice by YouTube.

Google is using AI for more than just managing and generating content. They’re now testing a new feature that allows users to personalize their home feed by telling the system, through simple prompts, what kinds of videos they want to see.
