I was at the Hershey Bears game the other night, and it was pretty wild! They had a little youth hockey showcase during the intermission, which is cool, but things quickly went south. A bunch of the kids actually started fighting on the ice! It was a total mess, honestly.
Fighting happens often in professional hockey in North America. Unlike most other sports, players are usually only lightly penalized for punching each other, making it one of the few where this is allowed.
While fighting is permitted in professional and major junior hockey leagues, it’s surprising to see it happen when young players are involved.
The Bears’ youth hockey intermission game, designed as a fun exhibition, quickly turned chaotic. What was supposed to be a friendly scrimmage instead became a widely shared fight between players from the Central Penn Panthers Youth Ice Hockey Club.
Investigation triggered after kids start brawling in wild intermission hockey game
Videos circulating online show players from both teams punching each other while the crowd watches and encourages the fight. Disturbingly, no referees or adults intervened to stop the altercation, even though the players are young children – all eight years old or younger.
Videos showing young players fighting, including the goalies, have gone viral, racking up over 16 million views.

The disagreement quickly escalated when players from both teams rushed in, creating a chaotic scramble similar to a pile-on in football.
One player seemed to have a physical altercation with a teammate, repeatedly hitting them in the head.
Okay, so near the end of this crazy video, one of the goalies actually skates back into the fight and just completely levels the other guy! It was a really hard hit.
The Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association called the incident a “staged fight.”
We know about a pre-planned fight that happened during the Hershey Bears AHL game, involving a youth hockey team from Pennsylvania (ages 8 and under). League officials are looking into the incident, and any players or coaches involved will face consequences. This intermission game wasn’t officially approved by USA Hockey or the Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association.
Meanwhile, the Central Penn Panthers said it was conducting a review of the incident.
As a fan, I’m really glad to hear the organization is taking this seriously. They’ve said that the safety and good experience of everyone involved, especially the kids, is their top priority. Right now, they’re looking into exactly what happened, talking to everyone who was there, and making sure they understand everything completely before making any decisions. It’s good to know they’re handling it carefully and responsibly.
Tonight’s Hershey Bears mites-on-ice game featured multiple big hits and fights. 😂

On December 20th, a fight broke out among young players during a Hershey Bears mites-on-ice game, with scuffles happening across the rink.
This hockey fight isn’t the first to get a lot of attention. During the annual teddy bear toss game in 2024, players from the Ottawa 67’s and Barrie Colts got into a fight on the ice, and someone even dressed as the Grinch joined in!
