Gamers are still upset with Paradox Interactive over the way they handled the “free” downloadable content for *Hearts of Iron 4*, and now they’re voicing their concerns about the game’s newest update.
Paradox Interactive remains a leader in strategy games, but they’ve faced some challenges recently. Fans have grown frustrated with a string of disappointing DLCs and game releases over the last few years, especially following another apology from one of their development teams. It seems players are losing patience with the quantity and quality of new content.
“Your greed will consume you”
Fans were upset when Paradox offered Hearts of Iron 4 DLC for free, as many had previously purchased it. Even a month later, the issue continues to bother players. Now, Paradox is advertising the new Hearts of Iron IV: General Edition and reminding everyone that the ‘Man the Guns’ DLC will soon be included for free with the base game.
The *General Edition* comes with two expansions – La Résistance and Battle for the Bosporus – both released in 2020. It costs $59.99, which is $10 more than the original game. For comparison, the Battle for the Bosporus expansion alone usually costs $9.99, but like the main game and other expansions, it’s often available at a reduced price.
The discussion under the Steam announcement isn’t mainly focused on the “General Edition” – people are talking more about *Man the Guns*.
Players are expressing similar frustrations as last month. They’re unhappy that the new downloadable content isn’t discounted for those who already own the expansion, and they dislike the decision to combine it with the main game. Many feel Paradox is prioritizing profits by planning to release updated versions of the content as paid updates, and see this as unfair to long-time fans.
Some online commenters argue that players who originally purchased *Magic: The Gathering* have already gotten years of enjoyment, so offering the downloadable content for free doesn’t take anything away from their experience.
