You, Me & Tuscany’s Ending Has A Clear Winner In The Film’s Love Triangle (& It’s The Right Choice)

Warning! SPOILERS ahead for You, Me & Tuscany.

The new romantic comedy, You, Me & Tuscany, starring Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page, is now playing in theaters. The movie centers around Anna (Bailey) and her choice between two brothers she meets in Italy: Matteo (Lorenzo de Moor), a realtor she meets at a bar, and his brother, Michael (Page), with whom she develops feelings while traveling. The plot is a little complicated, but overall easy to follow.

Anna, a young woman in the US, was heartbroken when her mother passed away. This loss caused her to quit culinary school and abandon her dream of becoming a chef. Feeling lost and alone, she started house-sitting for wealthy families, almost as if trying on different lives. But when she meets Matteo, an Italian realtor, she’s inspired to chase a dream she once shared with her mother: a trip to Italy.

Things get really complicated when Anna discovers Matteo’s Tuscan villa is vacant and decides to stay there without permission. Unfortunately, she’s discovered by Matteo’s mother and is forced to lie, claiming she’s meant to be there and is even engaged to Matteo! Just when that seems overwhelming, Anna unexpectedly starts falling for Matteo’s brother, Michael.

Fortunately, You, Me & Tuscany makes it very clear how things will turn out. By the end of the movie, we know exactly who Anna chooses between Matteo and Michael, and how their relationship unfolds – and it’s the most logical conclusion to the story.

Anna And Michael Are Together At The End Of You, Me & Tuscany

The story of You, Me & Tuscany was quite predictable, right down to the ending. From the beginning, the trailers made it clear that Anna would pretend to be engaged to Matteo, only to fall for his brother, Michael. That’s basically the whole movie – the only question was how that situation would resolve itself.

It’s not much of a shock, though, considering You, Me & Tuscany is a romantic comedy. As you’d expect, Anna and Michael eventually resolve their issues – often with convenient, movie-style solutions – and end up happily together, culminating in a classic scene of them running and kissing in Michael’s vineyards.

The most surprising thing is how easily they manage to pull this off. It’s strange because the family is actively encouraging Michael and Anna to become a couple, even though Anna is supposedly engaged to Matteo (and the family believes the engagement is genuine), and before Michael and Anna have admitted their feelings for each other.

Matteo really needs to talk to his parents and grandmother about how hurt he is that they tried to set up his fiancée with his brother. It’s strange, but instead of being upset, Matteo actually seems okay with the idea of his fake fiancée becoming his brother’s wife.

He’s unbelievably trusting, even handing his car keys to Anna so she can quickly meet up with his brother. It’s a remarkably generous—and perhaps naive—gesture.

There Was Never Really A Love Triangle

In the beginning of You, Me & Tuscany, Anna and Matteo clearly have a connection – that’s what starts the whole story. They meet at a bar and quickly hit it off, even going back to his hotel room, though Matteo falls asleep before anything happens. However, beyond that initial spark, the story isn’t really about a love triangle.

The movie centers around Anna and a lie she creates: she pretends to be engaged to Matteo. He’s completely unaware she’s even in Italy, let alone living in his home. While Matteo briefly suggests a fake marriage to satisfy their families, Anna quickly rejects the idea.

The relationship between Matteo and Anna mainly serves to bring Anna and Michael closer together. Despite initially suggesting a love triangle, You, Me & Tuscany actually gives Matteo very little time on screen.

Matteo Also Finds Love In The End, But It’s Not Exactly A Happy Ending

Though Michael and Anna ultimately found happiness together, as many expected, not everyone had such a positive outcome. While Matteo and Anna never truly fit, and their connection began as a brief encounter, Matteo didn’t find a better match with anyone else in the story either.

Looking at the movie, Isabella, Matteo’s former fiancée, actually seemed like a worse match for him than Anna. She clearly didn’t realize Anna and Matteo were pretending to be engaged, but she still aggressively pursued him and was unkind to Anna. Beyond that, the movie doesn’t give us much depth to her character – she’s mostly just presented as an interfering rival, which isn’t ideal.

Even so, the movie concludes with Isabella and Matteo sharing a meal with the family, which doesn’t quite add up. They had broken off their engagement before the story began, and it’s hard to believe the family would suddenly welcome her back so easily.

The biggest problem with You, Me & Tuscany is that it avoids explaining confusing parts of the story. When something doesn’t quite make sense, the movie simply overlooks it, like the surprisingly abrupt relationship between Matteo and Isabella.

Unanswered Questions After You, Me & Tuscany’s Ending

The time jump showed that Michael and Anna found happiness together, and while it also showed what happened with Matteo and Isabella, the movie didn’t tie up every loose end. The biggest remaining question is how Anna will actually manage the big move of transferring her life to a new country after this month in Italy.

The start of You, Me & Tuscany quickly establishes that Anna doesn’t have strong ties to the US. While her best friend, Claire, is back home, they easily stay in touch through texts, calls, and video chats, suggesting distance wouldn’t be a major issue.

Beyond that one close friendship, Anna was feeling adrift. She’d left culinary school and given up on her dream of becoming a chef, and was just doing temporary house-sitting jobs. When she left the country, she didn’t have a permanent home or any close family, so it wasn’t like she was leaving behind a strong support system.

Unlike her life in America, Anna had the opportunity to work at her family’s restaurant in Italy and was likely living with Michael in his beautiful, large villa in Tuscany. This suggests a move would have been a mostly positive experience for her. However, the film doesn’t acknowledge how difficult immigrating to a new country can be, and this is true even in the final scenes and credits.

Anna’s new life in Italy will probably be more challenging than her first month made it seem – a reality that applies to life in general and is often shown in romantic comedy sequels. Real life doesn’t end with “happily ever after,” and a sequel could explore the issues that remain unresolved.

Could You, Me & Tuscany Get A Sequel?

There are currently no plans for a sequel to You, Me & Tuscany, and we haven’t heard anything suggesting one is in development. However, that doesn’t mean it will never happen. The movie’s ending jumps forward in time, but only by a month. Anna and Michael are still together then, but that’s just a few weeks after the main story ends – leaving plenty of room for future adventures.

A sequel could delve into several unanswered questions from the movie, including what it would actually be like for Anna to move to Italy permanently. The film only showed her spending a month there, and a follow-up could explore the challenges and changes of truly uprooting her life and building a new one in Italy, if she chooses to do so. That would undoubtedly be a very different experience.

Anna and Michael end the movie simply dating, which feels right considering how long they’ve known each other. A sequel could focus on them getting engaged and married, which would be a lovely continuation of the story’s themes. It’s unclear if a sequel will actually happen, but the ending of You, Me & Tuscany definitely suggests the possibility—likely on purpose.
