Amazon is making it easier to order food with Alexa+. The new feature lets you talk to Alexa and build your order conversationally, customizing it as you go.
This new feature works with Grubhub and Uber Eats, letting customers find restaurants, customize their orders, and place them using a conversational exchange with Alexa, instead of just giving simple voice commands.
This update changes how Alexa interacts with you. Instead of just responding to commands, Alexa now offers a more fluid conversation where you can adjust requests, ask for clarifications, and see real-time updates displayed on your screen.
Alexa+ introduces conversational food ordering
This new feature lets users chat with Alexa to build their orders. They can browse menus, add or remove items, and make changes – like switching restaurants or customizing ingredients – all within the conversation, without having to start over. Alexa instantly updates the order as changes are made.
Grubhub’s Tapojoy Chatterjee, VP of Product, explained that they’re enthusiastic about Alexa+ because it simplifies finding and ordering food, making the whole process feel like a natural conversation.
Customers can easily tell us what they want, ask for help, get suggestions, and create their order as they talk. This makes ordering more convenient for customers, and it helps restaurants get noticed and quickly turn potential customers into completed orders.

Okay, so here’s how it works: you connect your delivery account to Alexa through the app. Once that’s done, all your previous orders magically show up! Then, I can just use my voice to reorder my favorites or start a whole new order – it’s super convenient!
Customers can find what they’re looking for by searching for a specific type of food or restaurant. They can then create their order with detailed requests, and easily browse the menu by asking for things like desserts or bestsellers. Before completing a purchase, Alexa will give a complete summary of the order, including prices and the total cost.
After placing an order, users can track delivery progress through Alexa by asking for updates.
Uber Eats is constantly seeking ways to improve how customers find and order their favorite meals. According to Harshit Agarwal, Head of Product at Uber Eats, the new partnership with Amazon and Alexa+ is a promising step towards making ordering even more convenient through voice commands. They’re excited to work with Amazon on innovations that reach customers on multiple platforms and offer new ways to interact with Uber Eats.
This new feature is being released to subscribers of Alexa+ who have Echo Show 8 or larger devices. Amazon says it’s part of a larger effort to make Alexa interactions more adaptable and intelligent, changing how it responds depending on what you’re trying to do.
