Nintendo’s upcoming Super Mario Galaxy movie is fully leaning into Yoshi’s adorable nature. In a recent preview, Mario (voiced by Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) discover a frightened Yoshi while attempting to repair a broken pipe in the Sand Kingdom and immediately welcome him into their group. The little dinosaur is incredibly cute, with large, expressive eyes and a tiny, kitten-like squeak. While Toad isn’t thrilled about the new addition to the team, the Mario brothers happily adopt Yoshi as their sidekick.
Yoshi is easily the cutest character revealed so far, even more so than Toad and Birdo, and he doesn’t need any special accessories to achieve it. The teaser showed a moment where he seemed to remember a childhood with Mario and Luigi – it’s a common trend for video game adaptations to feature younger versions of characters, especially since it references the game Yoshi’s Island. The very end of the teaser features Toad and Yoshi trying to protect Baby Mario and Baby Luigi from a realistic dinosaur – though their defense mostly involves running away!
