As a hardcore fan with over a decade of Dark Souls and FromSoftware under my belt, I can hardly contain my excitement for Elden Ring: Nightreign! The prospect of battling familiar foes from the past is an enticing twist that promises to keep us on our toes. The fact that this isn’t a live-service game is a relief, as it means we won’t be saddled with microtransactions and endless grinds.

It appears that the character known as the Nightlord in Elden Ring: Nightreign will summon adversaries from past battles to challenge players. The game’s director, Junya Ishizaki, has revealed that familiar foes from Dark Souls series will be integrated into the upcoming cooperative action-RPG.

As reported by Eurogamer, Ishizaki mentioned during an interview with Famitsu that some Dark Souls enemies will be included in Elden Ring, specifically Nightreign. This follows speculation among fans who thought they spotted The Nameless King from Dark Souls 3 in the co-op survival game’s debut trailer at The Game Awards last week.

In addition to this, Ishizaki has disclosed that Elden Ring: Nightreign isn’t a game-as-a-service title, despite its emphasis on multiplayer survival elements. Bandai Namco clarified that the pricing will be comparable to the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, which debuted at $40.

Elden Ring: Nightreign won’t support cross-platform play. However, it allows console generation play, such as PS4 users playing with PS5 players, but not between different platforms like PC and consoles. A network test for the action-RPG is planned for February 2025.

In Elden Ring: Nightreign, players will embark on a three-day-and-night cycle, aiming to defeat the Nightlord. From Software aims for each playthrough to be distinct, allowing relics to persist through subsequent attempts in Limveld. This cooperative game, which can also be played solo, is slated for release next year.
