Yes, That’s David Cronenberg in the Ready or Not 2 Trailer

Do you remember where you were when you first saw Ready or Not? I was on a plane at six in the morning, and I immediately thought it was fantastic. The 2019 film is a funny and scary story about a bride named Grace (played by Samara Weaving) who finds herself in a deadly game orchestrated by her new, wealthy in-laws. It was surprisingly ahead of the curve, mixing social commentary with over-the-top gore before films like The Menu or Blink Twice did. Samara Weaving is a truly talented scream queen, and the movie helped kick off what people now call the Adam Brody–ssance. You might hope things would be fairer in the six years since Ready or Not came out, but honestly, they’ve gotten worse. That’s unfortunate for us, but great news for this series of films that turns childhood games into brutal, anti-capitalist thrillers.

Okay, so I just saw the trailer for Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, and honestly, the title is perfect. I’m really excited about this one! It hits theaters April 10, 2026, but if I were the studio, I’d release it in January – we need a fun, over-the-top movie to balance out all the serious Oscar bait like Hamnet. From what I can tell, it’s basically more of the same hide-and-seek craziness, which is exactly what I want. Grace is back after surviving the Le Domas family, but now she’s facing off against a whole bunch of even more powerful families – the ‘high council,’ as Elijah Wood’s character snidely puts it. Plus, she’s gotta protect her little sister, played by Kathryn Newton, which adds another layer of tension. And the cast? Amazing! Sarah Michelle Gellar is in it (yes!), Shawn Hatosy from The Pitt (another win!), Néstor Carbonell (seriously, that man doesn’t age!), and even David Cronenberg! There’s something so satisfying about these movies – like when Sarah Michelle Gellar straight-up stabs Sam Weaving in the trailer – that keeps them from taking themselves too seriously. It’s just a good time, and that’s what I love about it.
