Yes, That Person Really Left The Morning Show

Spoilers abound for season four of The Morning Show.

In a shocking turn of events, Stella Bak is leaving The Morning Show. Greta Lee, who plays Stella, made her final appearance in last night’s episode. The episode was a disaster for Stella: she hurt Chris, discovered her AI technology wasn’t ready for a major event, failed to secure a partnership, and confided in a digital version of herself. To make matters worse, that AI then publicly exposed her affair with her boss’s husband, Miles, leading to her resignation. Her attempt to escape to Italy with him also failed, leaving her heartbroken and alone on a plane. Ultimately, Stella’s story ends in tragedy, betrayed by both people and technology.

Look, honestly, when Stella left the show, it really hit me. I told The Hollywood Reporter that it felt like losing family – I moved all the way from New York to L.A. for this gig a few years ago, and my kids were born while I was working on it, so it’s been a huge part of my life. But things just got to a point where continuing wasn’t realistic. These shows demand so much, and it became increasingly difficult to juggle everything – the scheduling conflicts, the time commitment… it was just getting harder and harder to make it work. We tried, believe me, but we finally reached a point where this was the only solution. And it’s not like I’m slowing down! This year alone, I’m in TMS, but also working with Kathryn Bigelow on A House of Dynamite, alongside Willem Dafoe in Late Fame, and even another AI-gone-wrong story with Tron: Ares.

Despite the recent turn of events, Stella might not be gone for good. According to Lee, she envisions Stella taking a break at a tiki bar for a few weeks before returning to action, hinting that she’ll be back with a new plan. Alternatively, it’s possible her artificial intelligence will continue her work. Either way, fans can still hope to see more of Greta Lee in the future.
