The first teaser for Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday shows Chris Evans returning as Steve Rogers! In the clip, he rides a motorcycle home and picks up a baby after seemingly retiring his Captain America suit. While it’s likely his child, some fans have joked he might be a new babysitter. The teaser confirms, “Steve Rogers will return,” which seems obvious given how famous the character is, but perhaps necessary considering Robert Downey Jr.’s surprise return as Doctor Doom. Evans hasn’t been in a Marvel movie since 2019’s Endgame, where he passed the Captain America shield to Sam Wilson and traveled back in time to be with Peggy Carter. He had previously stated he wouldn’t be in Doomsday, even telling Screen Rant that it felt like he wasn’t ‘invited to the party’ and that watching the movie would be difficult.
While the official announcement of Evans’s return wasn’t a complete surprise – a teaser featuring Steve Rogers had already leaked online after playing before early screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash – the reaction wasn’t universally positive, with some online expressing their disapproval. However, the Russo brothers, who directed previous films featuring the character, are clearly thrilled, calling it “the story that brought us all here together.” The teaser hints at his return, but how and why remains a mystery. We’ll find out when Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026. With over two dozen cast members already confirmed, Marvel has plenty of time to release more individual character previews in the meantime.
