Yellowstone Prequel 1923 Surges on Streaming 9 Months After Finale

The popular prequel to Yellowstone is gaining renewed attention on streaming services. Though it finished its two-season run in early April 2025, the show has recently returned to the top 10 most-watched programs on Paramount+ as of the start of 2026.

Data from FlixPatrol shows that 1923 is the tenth most popular series on Paramount+ globally. It currently ranks among the top 10 shows in 19 countries, helping it climb back onto the streaming charts.

1923 tells the story of the Dutton family in a new era – a generation before the characters in Yellowstone, but after those featured in the prequel 1883. Set in the early 20th century, the series stars Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford as Cara and Jacob Dutton, who face challenges like pandemics, drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression.

The show 1923 season 2 has maintained a 100% critics’ score on the review site. Critics generally agree that the season delivers more intense drama and excellent writing, continuing the strong style of Taylor Sheridan’s other shows.

I’m really excited about Season 1 of 1923! It’s already getting a ton of attention – double the reviews of other shows, actually – and it’s officially “Certified Fresh” with an 88% rating. Everyone seems to agree that Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren are absolutely fantastic in it, and while it’s another intense and pretty dark story from Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone world, it’s definitely well-made.

The sports series 1923 has been critically acclaimed, earning a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, general viewers gave it a lower score of 54%. It’s possible that the show is gaining renewed attention and a second look now that it’s available on streaming platforms.

Alongside Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford, the series 1923 features Brandon Sklenar, Julia Schlaepfer, Jerome Flynn, Darren Mann, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Michelle Randolph, and Timothy Dalton. Created by Taylor Sheridan, it’s the third show in the Yellowstone universe.

As a big fan of the Yellowstone universe, I thought the finale of 1923 really delivered. What struck me most was how carefully each character’s story was handled – everything felt deliberate and designed to pull at your heartstrings. While some performances truly shone, the writers managed to give everyone a satisfying conclusion, which made for a really strong ending to the season. It felt like a complete and thoughtful wrap-up for this chapter of the Dutton family saga.

The story began with two prequel series, but has grown to include future spin-offs like The Madison and Y: Marshals. Following the end of Yellowstone and Kevin Costner’s departure, The Dutton Ranch will continue the story. Currently in development are another spin-off, 6666, and a new prequel series, 1944, which will also serve as a sequel to 1923.
