In the thrilling climax of Yellowjackets Season 3, Episode 10, ‘Full Circle’, I found myself right back where it all began, as long-standing enigmas from the pilot were finally unraveled. What a ride!
So far, the Yellowjackets have been split following Shauna’s appointment as their new leader, who adopts a harsher strategy towards Nat. This is just one of several factors that make the third chapter the most deadly episode in this horror series to date.
Coach Scott, an adult named Lottie, another adult called Van, as well as two mysterious frog-people named Edwin and Kodiak, all passed away. However, it wasn’t until the end of Yellowjackets Season 3 that we learned what happened to Lottie – her fate remained a mystery until then.
Beyond simply identifying the person who shoved Lottie down the stairs, the show unveiled the true identity of the Pit Girl as well. (Spoiler alert!)
Yellowjackets Season 3 finale reveals the Pit Girl
Bravo! You’ve figured it out correctly – the character named “Pit Girl” in Yellowjackets is indeed Mari. This fact is verified in Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 10.
In the final scene, Akilah’s animals met their end, as she had foreseen. Nat ponders if this signifies that the Wilderness is urging them to depart, but Shauna and Lottie conclude that it’s now appropriate for another chase instead.
It’s being contended that prior deaths didn’t matter since Edwin and Coach Scott were considered adversaries. Consequently, they feel justified in eliminating one of their own.
In their preparations, Van and Taissa secretly discuss a plan to manipulate the card draw, ensuring novice Hannah picks the Queen of Hearts. They’re not keen on either of them perishing, distrusting Hannah, this appears to be an easy, viable option.
As they move around the circle, Shauna picks up on a strange vibe and decides to switch positions. This disruption causes the sequence to become jumbled, resulting in Mari drawing the card in question instead.
Initially, it appears that the chase in question differs from the “Pit Girl” scene from Yellowjackets Season 1. In contrast to the character running naked through the woods in a white nightgown, Mari is dressed in vibrant clothing.
However, partway through the chase, she comes to understand that her attire makes her an obvious target. Consequently, she removes her outer garments, leaving only her nightgown on, and carries on fleeing. Eventually, she collides with Lottie, causing her to tumble directly into a pit – the one Coach Scott discovered earlier and Travis had prepared with sharp spikes at the bottom.
The one who peered into the pit and observed Mari’s shaking form was actually Van. Contrary to how the initial Pit Girl scene might have suggested, Van was secretly heartbroken by the events that unfolded, not pleased as it appeared.
In a weepy state, she makes her way towards Tai and confesses, “This is something we’ve done wrong.” It appears that only Shauna finds amusement in this situation, instructing Nat to disembowel Mari, and insisting that the group collect her hair. This incident serves as the introduction to another major enigma unraveled in Yellowjackets Season 3.
Who is the Antler Queen?
Instead of being referred to as the “Pit Girl,” many people have speculated that Lottie might have been introduced as the “Antler Queen” back in Season 1. Yet, the end of Season 3 unveils that it was actually Shauna who fits this description.
As the girls are arranging their meal, team members begin adorning Shauna with different clothes. First, they attach strands of Mari’s hair onto her cloak, and then they place a headpiece over the antlers on her.
Meanwhile, grown-up Shauna pens a fresh entry in her journal, confessing, “It seems our memories of that time may be hazy because subconsciously, we knew we were enjoying ourselves immensely.
What we concealed and allowed to remain buried, with the people we considered friends, is the harsh reality that haunts me now. Memories flood back – the peril, the excitement, the individual I once was. Not a spouse or a parent, but a fighter, a ruler.
In a heartfelt conversation with Business Insider, Sophie Nélisse, who played teenage Shauna in the series, expressed no shock upon discovering the identity of the Antler Queen, as she saw how Shauna assumed leadership following Nat. This can be interpreted as an instance where events have come full circle or returned to their origin.
Has that satisfied her desire for revenge and control?” she inquired, further expressing, “I’m intrigued to discover how long she will maintain that control.
According to actress Alexa Barajas, she’s had a strong feeling for quite some time now that her character might be referred to as “Mari the Pit Girl.” She shared this suspicion with Deadline.
She admitted she didn’t realize it initially, but she had a sense of it. “I recall noticing the girl running through the woods in the pilot episode, and I thought to myself, ‘She looks strikingly like me.’ So, I felt there was a connection, and I am thrilled that we have finally reached this point.
In the course of his discussion, Barajas pointed out that the first episode of Yellowjackets Season 3 hinted at the moment when Mari tumbled into Coach Scott’s pit, as a prelude to this event.
