Okay, so Sega just dropped new Steam versions of Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2! The best part? If you already own Kiwami 2, you get the upgrade for free. Kiwami, though, you’ll have to grab it as a discounted upgrade. Not a bad deal if you’re looking to replay or jump into the series!
We’ve updated the classic Yakuza games! They’ve been renamed to Yakuza Kiwami (Legacy) and Yakuza Kiwami 2 (Legacy) and are no longer available for purchase. You can now buy the remasters separately for $19.99 each, or get both in a discounted bundle – perfect if you’re new to the series! Just so you know, you won’t be able to transfer your saved progress from the older versions to the new ones. Here are the official messages from the Steam store pages for both games:
If you own the original Yakuza Kiwami (often called ‘Legacy’), you can purchase the updated Yakuza Kiwami at a reduced price. The updated version simply adds more language options – the core gameplay and everything else remains the same. Please note that you won’t be able to transfer your saved progress from the original to the updated version.

So, I just picked up Yakuza Kiwami 2, and it’s basically the same game as the original Yakuza Kiwami 2 – they just added more languages to this version. Don’t bother trying to load up your old saves, though – unfortunately, they won’t work with this new version. You’ll have to start a fresh game!

Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2 are now available on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series, and PC. The original versions of these games have been removed from digital stores, but anyone who previously purchased them can still access them through their download history or game library.
