More Yakuza games

I’m so excited for the preorders, but if you’re looking to jump into the Yakuza series right now, there’s a ton to explore! Each game feels like its own self-contained story, and the series has really grown over time with different main characters and even some spin-offs. If you already own one of the Kiwami games, you can grab them separately. And if you want to go way back, The Yakuza Remastered Collection has Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 all in one package – and they run much better than they used to, which is awesome!

Okay, so these are the classic games, but they’ve been given a really nice HD upgrade. The gameplay is pretty much the same as I remember, which honestly, is great, but it *does* feel a little old-school in places. What’s really cool though is they’ve completely re-translated everything into English, and they’ve tweaked some characters’ looks and sounds. They even put back in content that we never got in the original Western releases, and thankfully, they removed some stuff that hadn’t aged well. It’s like getting the definitive versions!

I also highly recommend the games Judgment and Lost Judgment. They play similarly to the Yakuza series and use an episodic story format, but they star a different protagonist and include detective work. These games tackle more serious themes, diving deeper into issues like corruption, problems with Japan’s legal system, medical errors, murder, and teen suicide, all within a compelling story.

The Yakuza series has become known as Like a Dragon, with a new main character named Ichiban Kasuga. So far, two games have been released: Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Unlike previous Yakuza games which focused on action combat with Kiryu, these newer titles play like traditional turn-based RPGs. Earlier this year, a spin-off game called Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii was released, bringing back the classic action gameplay that longtime fans remember.
