Great news for Muppet fans! Disney has announced strong ratings for the recent revival of The Muppet Show, suggesting there’s potential for more episodes. Over the first eight days, a total of 7.58 million people watched across ABC and Disney+. This is comparable to the weekly viewership of popular shows like Dancing With the Stars last season. The initial broadcast on ABC attracted 3.1 million viewers – the same number as the premiere of Dexter: Resurrection.
Disney reported a significant increase in Muppet viewership on Disney+. Over just eight days, viewers spent a total of 125 million hours watching Muppet content – that’s a lot of people revisiting classics like The Great Muppet Caper! It makes you wonder how much more popular the Muppets could be if Disney+ added shows like The Fantastic Miss Piggy Show from 1982, or even just a single episode of Muppets Tonight. And releasing the chicken-themed version of the song “Manchild” on Spotify would likely be a big hit.
I was totally cracking up when I saw Kermit’s post after the news came out! He thanked all the fans of The Muppet Show, which was sweet, but then he subtly threw some shade at the thought of a Miss Piggy spin-off. Honestly, Kermit, be careful! She’s a huge star, and deserves all the recognition!
