Popular streamer xQc sparked controversy online by suggesting that many VTubers choose not to reveal their faces because of their appearance.
The streaming world has been buzzing this week after QTCinderella’s Streamer Awards on December 6th. Several memorable moments from the show went viral, leading to a lot of discussion about where the industry stands right now.
A recent discussion has focused on The Burnt Peanut winning VTuber of the Year, as some VTubers and fans questioned whether they deserved the award.
Peanut’s reaction was mainly because he only used a face filter that covered his eyes and mouth – not a full mask that hid his whole face. Also, he’d previously said he wasn’t interested in that type of content.
Ironmouse, a leading VTuber, countered this opinion, stating that Peanut also deserved the victory and recognition as a genuine VTuber. This led to criticism directed at both Ironmouse and Peanut.
Peanut responded to the negative feedback by explaining that much of the harassment came from fans of other VTubers, specifically describing them as older men pretending to be young anime characters.
After facing criticism, TheBurntPeanut responded by claiming the anger towards ironmouse originated from a segment of the VTuber community – specifically, what they described as middle-aged men pretending to be young anime characters.

xQc weighs in on VTuber controversy with blunt comments about face reveals
The discussion rapidly spread online, and popular streamer Felix ‘xQc‘ Lengyel, who broadcasts on Twitch and Kick, publicly expressed his agreement with Peanut’s viewpoint.
The streamer started by saying that many VTubers hide behind virtual avatars because they are unhappy with their appearance. They clarified they weren’t trying to be offensive or judgmental, but believe most VTubers would prefer to be seen on camera if they felt comfortable with how they looked.
“That’s okay,” he continued. “That’s completely fine. But come on, bro. You know what I mean?”

Lengyel’s remarks have sparked discussion, with many viewers suggesting that VTubers may not be worried about their appearance, but rather value their privacy.
I was reading the comments on YouTube, and someone made a really good point. They said it’s easy to judge people based on how they look, but a lot of times, they just want to be left alone. Honestly, I totally get that! I wouldn’t want my face all over the internet, especially on some of those strange websites you see these days.
Someone else pointed out that people aren’t concealing their identities due to their appearance, but because of overly obsessive individuals online.
Creators have their own reasons for concealing their faces, but this discussion started after Ironmouse shared a difficult experience at the Streamer Awards. She explained that RaKai and Ray questioned her about her looks and background, which made her uncomfortable.
Ironmouse playfully joked about using a VTuber avatar because she considered herself unattractive, but then clarified she’d given a silly response to what she felt was a silly question.
Ironmouse started streaming as a VTuber because of serious health issues that require her to stay home to avoid getting sick.
