Felix Lengyel, known as xQc, commented that Jimmy Donaldson, or MrBeast, seems much more genuine when he’s not filming a YouTube video.
It’s common for content creators to present different versions of themselves to the public. Some prefer to keep their private lives separate, hide their faces, or simply amplify their personality when recording videos or streaming.
MrBeast is the most popular creator on YouTube, and he’s managed to stay on top by being consistently upbeat and engaging. This positive and entertaining approach is why he has so many subscribers.
xQc believes Jimmy sometimes acts differently – more authentically – when he’s live streaming, like during their joint stream on Kick.
xQc says MrBeast is “more real” away from cameras
During his December 2nd livestream, the popular Canadian streamer noted that MrBeast acts quite differently when he’s not filming compared to when he’s on camera.
Everyone has a performative side, a part of themselves they show to others. That aspect naturally diminishes over time, but that’s not the core issue. The real point is that anything you create—art, a project, anything—is an expression of who you are, but it’s never a perfect copy. It’s always going to be different from your complete self.
He’s much more authentic now, but showing even more of his true self in videos could lead to unwarranted criticism and ‘cancel culture.’ This could harm his career and potentially force his company to make cuts and lay off employees due to the negative reaction to his actions.
The ex-Overwatch pro mentioned a joke MrBeast told while streaming with him and Adin Ross, explaining it probably wouldn’t be allowed on YouTube.
MrBeast has explained that his team is now concentrating on creating videos with stronger narratives, moving away from simply being extravagant. He’s also admitted some recent videos haven’t been his best work and has vowed to significantly improve the quality of his content by 2026.
