Xbox head Sarah Bond recently confirmed Microsoft is working on a new Xbox console. She’s repeated this several times, especially with rumors circulating that Microsoft might stop making Xbox hardware. Now, Bond is further emphasizing the potential of the next Xbox, describing it as a truly powerful gaming experience.
In a recent conversation with Fortune, Xbox’s Bond emphasized how important hardware is to the company’s success. He explained that dedicated Xbox fans especially value the physical experience of the console. Because of this, Xbox is developing new, powerful hardware that will also allow players to access their games on the go.
Bond believes gamers should be able to play Xbox games on any device – whether that’s the console, PC, or through cloud gaming. She’s emphasized this point before, including when discussing the ROG Xbox Ally last October, and the next Xbox is expected to offer this flexibility.
While the PlayStation 6 and the next Xbox were originally predicted to launch in 2027, the postponement of Grand Theft Auto 6 might now push those releases back to 2028, according to one industry analyst. In other news, Microsoft has been helping independent game creators by sharing resources for Xbox development. Plus, the ROG Ally handheld gaming system has been very popular, leading Asus to ramp up production to meet demand.
So, Microsoft is doing another Xbox Partner Preview on November 20th, but honestly, don’t get your hopes up for anything about the next Xbox. It sounds like they’re focusing on other stuff this time around.
