As a gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I have to say that Brandon J’s story has left me both shaken and awestruck. It’s not every day you hear about a device saving someone’s life, especially one as seemingly mundane as an Xbox Series S.
An Xbox fan has shared a harrowing story of how they were hit by a truck and dragged under it, and how the Xbox in his backpack helped prevent his head from pounding the pavement.
This week on social media, Brandon J narrated a harrowing experience. He was cycling home from GameStop with his newly purchased Xbox Series S in his bag when a truck struck him. The driver continued moving, dragging Brandon under the vehicle. In his own words, “The Xbox in my backpack saved me from hitting my head or meeting a worse fate, even death. I didn’t want to be crushed underneath the truck, so I used my left leg to try and slow it down.
At that moment, my bicycle got stuck, pinning down my right leg, making it immobile. The next instant, my backpack was precariously holding onto my left shoulder before slamming against the curb together with me.
Later on, Brandon mentioned that he suddenly felt the front part of the truck start to crush onto his ribs, sliding him roughly for approximately 12 feet. He was subsequently rushed to the hospital where doctors found only one broken bone in his left foot, along with some scrapes from the road. Remarkably, Brandon seemed to have sustained minimal injuries overall and even his Xbox managed to survive the ordeal without any apparent damage; it powered on as usual and played games without issue despite the impact it endured.
In his message, Brandon implied that if his Xbox hadn’t been in his bag during the incident, things might have turned out quite differently for him… He even posted several photos to illustrate the extent of the damage.

This story caught the attention of Microsoft, and marketing boss Aaron Greenberg said the Xbox team is sending Brandon a new console. “Rest up and be grateful for every day we have here together,” Greenberg said. The official Xbox account also replied to Brandon, saying, “We’re so glad that you’re safe and hope the recovery is going well.”
