Xbox Getting Major Free RPG, No Game Pass Required

Games are frequently released only on certain consoles, but this changes over time. Most game companies want to sell their games on popular platforms like Steam, but some choose to release them first, or exclusively, on PlayStation or Xbox.

It looks like a game that was previously only available on PlayStation 5 might soon be released on Xbox. The news comes from a recent leak discovered on Reddit.

Joining PS5 and PC

Kuro Games launched Wuthering Waves in mid-2024 for PC and mobile, and it came to PS5 in January 2025. Like Genshin Impact, it’s a free-to-play game with a gacha system, set in a visually striking anime world. However, Wuthering Waves has a darker atmosphere and emphasizes fast-paced action combat. While similar to Genshin, it offers enough unique features and boasts impressive graphics.

For over a year, this game has only been available on PlayStation 5, but that’s about to change. Players have discovered code within the game that suggests it will soon be released on Xbox, referencing Xbox user accounts and online features. It looks like Kuro Games is preparing to launch the game on Xbox very soon.

People have different opinions about this. Some don’t really use Xbox, while others are excited the game is available on multiple platforms. One user pointed out, “While it might seem like a funny thing to say, Genshin Impact actually makes a lot of money on Xbox.”

Many other gamers primarily use Xbox and are pleased with this update. One user shared, “I really enjoy the Xbox Series S. It’s great for playing older games. I can easily play games that have been removed from stores, like Battlefield: Bad Company 1, and get Fallout: New Vegas running without the hassle of getting it working on a current PC.”

From our perspective, having the game on as many platforms as possible is great. As a smaller studio, we want to give fans more choices for playing it in the future, and wider availability – as long as it runs smoothly – will help with that.

So Far, It’s A PlayStation Console Exclusive

More Platforms Are Always Good

After more than a year of waiting, it appears Wuthering Waves is scheduled to launch on Xbox in 2026. One player is wondering if the game might also come to the Switch 2, noting that the game already uses a technology called DLSS, but acknowledges that a Switch version is probably unlikely despite the possibility.

If things go as planned, you should be able to play Wuthering Waves on Xbox later this year. It looks like the necessary preparations are already in place.
