This year, Xbox Game Pass is going to be accessible on select LG Smart TVs, as Microsoft plans to extend its service through Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate users can now enjoy streaming and playing games directly on their latest LG TVs without needing an Xbox console. Approximately 50 games from the subscription service will be accessible via these smart TVs. Microsoft unveiled this capability to stream owned games in November, with popular titles such as Baldur’s Gate 3, Hades, Cyberpunk 2077, NBA 2K25, Hogwarts Legacy, and others included in the feature.
At present, individuals who wish to stream Xbox Game Pass games without owning an actual console or computer can do so using their smartphones, Amazon Fire TV, or newer Samsung Smart TVs. Microsoft has promised to disclose more information about how this service will operate on LG TVs in the upcoming months. However, it remains undecided whether support for the service will be extended to older LG TV models in the future.
The integration of Xbox Cloud Gaming and Game Pass into LG TVs is a component of Microsoft’s latest marketing campaign called “This is an Xbox,” which aims to broaden the concept of gaming on Xbox by emphasizing that people can experience “Xbox-like” gaming not only on their PC, mobile devices, but also on television sets.
For quite some time, Microsoft has been emphasizing a particular message. In the year 2020, the head of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer, stated that their objective was not just about boosting Xbox console sales, but rather expanding the number of people who engage in gaming on Xbox.
According to Spencer, this refers to anyone accessing and participating in our system, regardless of whether they are directly associated with us (first-party) or not (third-party). This could be done using various devices such as an Android phone, a Nintendo Switch, or a personal computer. In essence, that’s the way we perceive it.
As a gamer, I appreciate that Microsoft lets me stream Xbox Game Pass games across multiple devices, but what really takes the cake is their decision to release many of their first-person titles on rival platforms. The latest Xbox exclusive, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, is even making its way to PlayStation 5 this coming spring!
