Microsoft is experimenting with a feature that lets Windows 11 users bring up Task View using their Xbox controller. Holding down the Xbox button on the controller will open Task View, making it easier to quickly switch between applications – like going from a game to Discord, for instance.
Microsoft says this Xbox controller update is currently only being tested in preview versions of Windows 11. It won’t affect how the Xbox button already works – a quick press will still open the Game Bar, and holding it down will still turn off the controller.
The new ROG Xbox Alley handhelds will have a dedicated Xbox button and run Windows 11. Once Microsoft releases an update to all PCs, using Task View on these handhelds should work the same way as on a regular Windows computer.
Microsoft revealed last month that the ROG Xbox Alley handheld gaming devices will be available starting October 16th. There are two models: the standard Xbox Alley, which has a 720p screen, and the more powerful Xbox Alley X with a 1080p screen. While official prices haven’t been announced, earlier reports suggest the base model could cost around $550 and the premium version around $900. You can find a first look at the Xbox Alley X in TopMob’s recent impressions.
