As the premiere of X-Men ’97 Season 2 approaches, voice actor Ross Marquand has let slip that the new season of the popular Marvel show will feature several important characters dying. In a recent conversation, Marquand discussed the highly anticipated continuation of X-Men ’97, hinting at multiple character deaths.
X-Men ’97 Season 2 to feature a lot of deaths
During a conversation with Collider’s Maggie Lovitt at FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention, Marquand revealed that the second season of X-Men ’97 will be noticeably darker in tone than the first season.
Regarding the new season’s more serious feel, Marquand expressed his surprise that Disney approved it, stating, “I was amazed Disney greenlit it because it’s so dark. It’s very, very dark. A lot of people die, and so many people don’t talk about it. Just being honest.” He emphasized the show’s darker themes and the significant number of character deaths, noting that these aspects aren’t often discussed.
As a huge fan, I’m getting the impression that what happens in X-Men ’97 Season 2 is going to be *way* bigger than even Gambit’s death in Season 1. It’s still so sad thinking about how he sacrificed himself – he died in Episode 5 while trying to save Rogue from a nuclear blast. It was a really powerful moment, but it sounds like Season 2 will be on another level!
I was really excited to hear more about what’s coming up in the second season during the interview. The actor, who’s 44, talked about his role – he’s playing Apocalypse again! He said, “I play Apocalypse next season too, so there’s a lot of scenes for myself as Apocalypse.” It sounds like it’s a bit of a different take on the character, though. He mentioned, “I’m dressed in rags, which is kind of weird, but yeah,” which is definitely intriguing! I’m really curious to see how that plays out on screen. It sounds like he’s having fun with the role, and that’s always a good sign.
Besides Marquand, Season 2 of X-Men ’97 will welcome Holly Chou and Ray Chase to the cast, who will be voicing Jubilee and Cyclops, respectively. Returning from Season 1, Lenore Zann, George Buza, and Cal Dodd will reprise their roles as Rogue, Beast, and Wolverine.
Season 2 is still planned to debut on Disney+ next year, but we don’t have a specific release date yet. Currently, the premiere date remains unknown. We’ll share more information as soon as it’s available.
