X, formerly known as Twitter, is now testing a dislike button on posts. Nikita Bier, the head of product at X, recently demonstrated how the feature could function.
Wow, it feels like ages ago that Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion back in 2022! Since then, the platform has changed so much. The biggest shocker to me was definitely when they ditched the Twitter name and rebranded everything as X!
The platform has seen a lot of updates recently, including new ways to get verified, opportunities to earn money from your posts, a feature called Community Notes to help correct misinformation, and even voice messaging in direct messages. These are just a few of the many changes made over the past few years.
The platform is also still evolving, and some users are now testing a ‘dislike’ feature.
X shows off dislike post feature
After being proposed by Elon Musk and his team for some time, the dislike button began testing on March 17th.
Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, recently announced that it will soon become unprofitable to spam on the platform. He stated that the financial benefits of spamming will decrease significantly over the next month, ultimately becoming negative.
It will become much less profitable to send spam on X over the next month, and eventually, spammers will likely lose money.

Next, Bier demonstrated how he disliked a post, triggering a prompt from the app asking him to explain his negative feedback.
So long, Yasir. Your days are numbered.

People might choose to ignore a post if they’re not interested in it, if it’s created by AI, contains inaccurate information, or is simply spam.
As a fan, I’m glad to see there’s a way to report posts if they’re problematic. It sounds like the platform takes these reports seriously, and could even suspend accounts or limit what people can post if they break the rules. That’s a good thing, honestly!
We tested this feature as early as 2024, but it wasn’t released to everyone. It’s still unclear when it will be available to all users, and whether a subscription to X will be required to access it.
