Ryan Coogler shared an exciting plot update about his X-Files reboot.
What did Ryan Coogler say about The X-Files reboot?
I’m so excited to hear Ryan Coogler is working on a new take on The X-Files! It was such a groundbreaking show – two FBI agents delving into all sorts of strange, unexplained mysteries they called the “X-Files.” Chris Carter, the creator, really nailed the format. Each episode was usually a self-contained story with a creepy monster or unusual event, but there was always a bigger, season-long storyline unfolding in the background too. It was a perfect blend of spooky and suspenseful!
I heard Ryan Coogler talking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, and he mentioned he’s planning to use the same kinds of storytelling methods in the upcoming reboot. It sounds like he really wants to carry over what worked before!
Coogler explained that the show will maintain the classic ‘X-Files’ structure, featuring both standalone, spooky cases each week and a larger, season-long mystery. He said, ‘It wouldn’t be ‘X-Files’ without both!’
After the hit film Sinners, Ryan Coogler has a lot of influence and can pretty much pursue any project he desires. So, it’s surprising that he’s opted to focus on a television show reboot rather than making another movie.
You know, that show holds a really special place for me – it’s something I used to watch with my mom. Honestly, I think it’s one of the most beautifully made American TV shows, period. For me, that’s what great art is all about – taking those early influences and building something completely fresh. You see that dynamic echoed everywhere, really. Any time you watch a show or movie with a skeptic and a believer teaming up to solve a mystery – think the first season of True Detective – you’re seeing that same inspiration at work.
Ryan Coogler is currently focused on his work with The X-Files and will finish that project before beginning Black Panther 3. There’s no confirmed release date yet for the X-Files reboot.
There’s talk that Danielle Deadwyler will star in a new series. When questioned about her potential role, director Ryan Coogler simply stated he couldn’t comment on it.
Coogler didn’t say whether Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny would return to play their characters, Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, in the show.
