Previously recognized as Twitter, the well-known microblogging platform, recently declared their intention to incorporate a video feature into the app, following speculations about the potential fate of TikTok.
Since Elon Musk acquired Twitter in 2022, the platform has undergone numerous changes and added several new features.
Among them, the largest addition to the mobile app’s interface, Grok AI, was integrated as a tab at the bottom of the app starting from December 2024.
Currently, with the lingering doubt surrounding TikTok’s continued operation in the U.S., X has introduced a fresh video section for users within the application.
X announces video tab coming to mobile app
On January 20, 2025, X unveiled their latest video-watching feature, which has now begun its global rollout to users.
In this app, we’ll position a scrolling video button at the bottom, similar to TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or Instagram Reels, enabling users to effortlessly browse videos in a seamless manner.

Users flocked to the comments to share their thoughts, with many excited for it to be added.
One user commented: “Thank you 𝕏! This is an amazing advancement!”
StoneMountain64 expressed, “I might begin sharing some longer videos as well, apart from the brief ones I’ve been posting,” (or) “I’m considering expanding my content on Twitch and YouTube to include longer videos too,” (or) “I wonder if it’s time to start mixing shorter and longer video formats.
Others made it clear they don’t want X to turn into “the next TikTok” with the new feature.
“Please don’t make this the next TikTok. I deleted that app for a reason,” one user said.
This occurs during a period where the fate of TikTok is unclear following its ban enforcement on January 19, 2025, resulting in the platform being offline for 14 consecutive hours.
President Trump has announced his intention to prolong the TikTok ban for another 90 days, while also expressing a desire for the U.S. to hold a 50% stake in the app, partnered with ByteDance.
