Wyatt Russell, who played John Walker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has shared what he’d like to see happen with the character next. He envisions a comedic pairing with Bucky Barnes and suggests Walker could end up working at The Raft, a prison for supervillains.
Wyatt Russell first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as John Walker, a character who becomes Captain America and later the U.S. Agent, in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He’s continuing this role in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie.
Walker will appear alongside many superheroes and villains in the upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.
During our conversation with Russell about Season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, we also inquired about the possibility of a Thunderbolts 2 and his vision for the character’s future after the Avengers storyline.

Wyatt Russell shared that he’s envisioned a future path for John Walker‘s character that closely follows the comic books.
I’ve always envisioned a story arc where my character suffers a major injury – losing an arm – and ends up using a wheelchair. Ultimately, I’d like him to become the warden of The Raft, the prison for superheroes, allowing me to continue working on Marvel stories from a desk job.
Russell is interested in collaborating with Sebastian Stan on a movie featuring their Marvel characters. He’d particularly enjoy a buddy cop comedy with Stan’s character, Bucky Barnes. He expressed his fondness for working with the people at Marvel and is proud of the quality of the projects he’s been involved in.
Everyone is onboard for Thunderbolts 2

We inquired about a potential follow-up to Thunderbolts/New Avengers, and Russell confirmed that all the actors are eager to reprise their roles and continue the storyline.
Everyone would be open to a Thunderbolts movie, according to Russell, as long as the budget was reasonable. He believes that if the project was handled well, with a genuine focus on quality – like director Jake Schreier intended – it would be a success. Schreier is currently working on an X-Men film, but he was truly dedicated to making a good Thunderbolts movie.
We all really enjoyed making the movie, and I’m incredibly proud of how it turned out. Everyone involved feels the same way – we loved the experience and would jump at the chance to do it all over again.
The second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will premiere on Apple TV+ on February 27, 2026. If you’re looking for more Marvel content, you can find a guide to watching the Marvel movies in order, as well as a list of all the Marvel movies and shows currently in the works.
