The next WWE 2K game, WWE 2K26, is expected to feature four new match types, bringing back two popular options that haven’t been included in the game for 13 years.
Wrestling fans eagerly await the release of the yearly WWE video game, and this year’s edition is highly anticipated. Recent news suggested CM Punk would be the main star, with a special ‘Showcase’ mode dedicated to his career, and now it’s confirmed the game itself will also receive several improvements.
Players often enjoy seeing new match types added to wrestling games. While it’s impossible to include every match from wrestling history, especially with ongoing game updates, the new options this year should be a big hit with fans.
I’m really excited to hear that WWE 2K26 is adding four new match types! Insider-Gaming reported it, and honestly, I’m a little shocked it took this long for one of them to come back – it’s a classic!
WWE 2K26 to include I Quit, 3 Stages of Hell, Inferno and Dumpster matches
The report indicates that a particular feature has been in the works for some time. While it’s unknown exactly which one, there are two leading candidates.
The game brings back the I Quit match, which hasn’t been featured since WWE 2K14. To win, you need to deal enough damage to your opponent that they verbally submit – simply making them tap out isn’t enough.
This match feels unique compared to most wrestling contests, likely because it focuses more on the psychological battle between the competitors than just physical strength.

The Inferno Match is back after 13 years, and it’s as dangerous as ever! The ring is actually set on fire, and the more powerful a wrestler’s moves, the bigger the flames become. The goal? To literally burn your opponent to win.
The only new match added is called Dumpster Match. Like Casket or Ambulance matches, the goal is probably to throw your opponent into a dumpster to win.
The final match is a 3 Stages of Hell match, which is pretty simple: it’s a best-of-three falls match. Each fall takes place under different rules – for example, one could be a No Disqualification match, another with tables, and the last inside a Steel Cage. Any combination of these, or other match types, can be used.
We’ll share more information in the coming weeks as we get closer to WrestleMania 42.
