Wuthering Heights “sweaty” walls have a shocking connection to Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie is captivating audiences in the new film version of Wuthering Heights, and surprisingly, one of the movie’s key locations has a personal link to the actress.

Wuthering Heights is Emerald Fennell’s third feature film, after the success of her first movie, Promising Young Woman, which won an Oscar, and her well-received second film, Saltburn.

So, Fennell’s tackled Wuthering Heights and honestly, it’s been drama from day one. Ever since they announced it, people have been picking apart everything – the actors they chose, how accurate it is to the time period, the overall vibe, and even the, uh, more intimate scenes. It feels like nothing’s been safe from criticism!

The new movie opened in theaters around the world today, February 13th, and fans are now paying close attention to a specific set piece – Cathy’s bedroom – after the writer and director shared some unexpected details about it.

Why Wuthering Heights walls are based on Margot Robbie’s skin

Margot Robbie stars as Catherine Earnshaw in the film Wuthering Heights. A key location is her bedroom, which visually represents passion and intimacy – even to the point of appearing physically touched, as shown in the image.

To achieve the desired look for the Thrushcross Grange room, Emerald Fennell and production designer Suzie Davies cleverly used patterns based on Robbie’s skin as inspiration.

Fennell described how they asked the actress to provide detailed photos of her veins and freckles. These images were then printed onto silk, padded to create volume, and coated with latex to give a sweaty appearance, as she explained in a Q&A with the British Film Institute (according to LADbible).

Despite seeming chaotic, there’s a deliberate intention behind it, as Fennell explains. She says it visually captures the experience of becoming a wife – of being treated as an object of beauty, something to be collected and admired.

The connection between Margot Robbie and the film set goes even deeper. Set decorator Charlotte Dirickx revealed to Architectural Digest that a pattern resembling her veins was woven into the carpet. The magazine also noted that a strand of Margot Robbie’s hair was actually placed under the glass of a table on that same carpet.

In short, as well as being in the room, Cathy/Robbie is all over it.
